THE PIPE HITTER FOUNDATION IS COMMITTED TO DEFENDING THE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM - THE SAME RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS THEY RISK THEIR LIVES TO UPHOLD. TO FULFILL THIS MISSION PHF HAS THE FOLLOWING BROAD GOALS:FINANCIAL SUPPOPRT AND LEGAL DEFENSE. PROVIDE IMMEDIATE AND ONGOING FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO SERVICE MEMBERS, FIRST RESPONDERS AND THEIR FAMILIES AS WELL AS LEGAL DEFENSE FUNDS AND ASSOCIATED EXPENSES TO UNIFORMED PERSONNEL WHO NEED IT.ADVOCACY. ADVOCATE GENERALLY FOR SERVICE MEMBERS AND FIRST RESPONDERS AND FOR A MILITARY AND CIVILIAN JUSTICE SYSTEM THAT RESPECTS THEIR RIGHTS, ENHANCE COMMUNICATIONS AMONG SERVICE MEMBERS AND FIRST RESPONDERS AND STRENGTHEN PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR SERVICE MEMBERS AND FIRST RESPONDERS.PUBLIC AFFAIRS. SCHELLER PROJECT. IN AUGUST, 2020, LT. COLONEL STUART SCHELLER ISSUED PUBLIC COMMENTS AND CRITICISM OF THE U. S. GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY REGARDING THE WITHDRAWAL FROM AFGHANISTAN AND THE DEATHS OF THIRTEEN SERVICEMEN. AS A RESULT, COLONEL SCHELLER WAS ARRESTED AND ULTIMATELY PLED GUILTY TO VIOLATING SEVERAL ARTICLES OF THE UCMJ IN A SPECIAL COURT-MARTIAL AND WAS DISCHARGED FROM THE MILITARY ENDING AN OTHERWISE REMARKABLE CAREER. FUNDS WERE PROVIDED SCHELLER AND HIS FAMILY TO COVER EXTRAORDINARY LIVING COSTS INCURRED DURING THE PERIOD OF HIS ARREST AND TRIAL. FUNDS WERE ALSO PROVIDED FOR LEGAL REPRESENTATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS SERVICES
THE BLACKWATER FOUR PROJECT. FOUR MILITARY VETERANS SLOUGH, SLATTEN, LIBERTY AND HEARD, CONTRACTORS FOR THE BLACKWATER SECURITY COMPANY WERE ARRESTED, PROSECUTED, TRIED AND FOUND GUILTY OF WRONGDOING IN THE NISOUR SQUARE MASSACRE ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2007. THE FOUR INDIVIDUALS WERE GRANTED FULL PRESIDENTIAL PARDONS ON DECEMBER 20, 2020. FUNDS WERE PROVIDED TO THESE INDIVIDUALS TO REIMBURSE THEM FOR EXTRAORDINARY COSTS INCURRED DURING THEIR PERIODS OF INCARCERATION AND FOR LEGAL DEFENSE COSTS.
MATTHEW DAGES PROJECT. MATTHEW DAGES, A FORMER LA MESA, CA POLICE OFFICER WAS ACCUSED OF LYING REGARDING THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF AN ARREST HE MADE ON MAY 27, 2020. DESPITE BEING CLEARED OF ALL CRIMINAL CHARGES INCLUDING WRONGFUL USE-OF-FORCE, DAGES STILL FACES UNCERTAINTY REGARDING LIABILITY FOR VIOLENCE OCCURING IN THE CITY FOLLOWING THE ARREST INCIDENT. FUNDS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED FOR EXTRAORDINARY COSTS INCURRED BY DAGES INCLUDING LEGAL FEES NOT COVERED BY THE POLICE UNION.
