Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
WE WERE ABLE TO RESCUE AND PROVIDE SANTUARY FOR 22 NEW RESIDENTS: SEVEN PIGS, TWO CALVES, SIX GOATS, SIX CHICKENS, AND ONE DUCK. NINETEEN OF THESE RESCUES HELPED PEOPLE WHO HAD NO OTHER PLACE TO TURN TO IN FINDING SHELTER FOR THEIR FARM ANIMALS. THIS INCLUDED AN ELDERLY COUPLE NO LONGER ABLE TO CARE FOR THEIR BELOVED GOATS, TWO DISABLED VETERANS WHOSE PET PIGS WERE BECOMING TOO MUCH FOR THEM TO HANDLE, AND A FAMILY WHO WAS LOSING THEIR FARM TO FORECLOSURE AND HAD NO ONE TO TAKE IN THEIR GOAT OR CHICKENS.WE EXPANDED OUR EDUCATION AND AWARENESS PROGRAM TO OFFER EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING FIELD TRIPS TO LOCAL SCHOOLS, AND OPENED OUR DOORS TO THE PUBLIC, OFFERING PRIVATE TOURS. OUR FIRST FIELD TRIP TO AREA MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PROVIDED TWO DAYS OF LEARNING, SERVICE AND BUILDNG PROJECTS FOR A DOZEN LOCAL 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS. OUR NEW TOUR PROGRAM HAS HOSTED OVER 200 GUESTS AT THE SANCTUARY. WE ARE PROUD TO PRIVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR OTHERS TO SEE THE DEEP LIVES OF OUR ANIMAL RESIDENTS AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS TO PROVIDE SANTUARY FOR FARM ANIMALS.2023 ALSO SAW INVESTMENTS IN SANCTUARY INFRASTRUCTURE TO ENSURE BETTER LONG-TERM HEALTH OUTCOMES FOR RESIDENTS AND EASIER MAINTENENCE FOR OUR GROUNDS. ELECTRICITY TO THE RUMINANT AREA MEANS THAT WE CAN PROVIDE SAFE AND RELIABLE HEAT TO THE GOAT HOUSE, MEANING NO MORE HYPOTHERMIC GOATS IN OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS KITCHEN WHEN IT IS -45 DEGREES OUTSIDE. INSTALLATION OF A GRAVEL GRID DRAINAGE SYSTEM IN THE HORSE PADDOCK MEANT DRY HOOVES THIS WINTER AND SPRING. DRY HOOVES ARE HAPPY AND HEALTHY HOOVES. EXPANSION OF FENCING TO INCLUDE ANOTHER 3 ACRES OF GRAZING WAS ALSO COMPLETED, INCREASING THE TOTAL AREA OF SECURELY FENCED AREA TO JUST OVER 13 ACRES.
