OUR MISSION IS TO PROVIDE MEANINGFUL COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES, WHILE RAISING FUNDS FOR THE WESTPORT LIBRARY, THROUGH SALE OF USED BOOKS.

THE COMPANY OPERATES THE WESTPORT BOOK SHOP, A NON-PROFIT RETAIL USED BOOK SHOP LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN WESTPORT, CT. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR COVERED BY THIS REPORT, THE BOOK SHOP PROVIDED PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT AND WORKPLACE SKILLS TRAINING FOR 11 ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES. IN ADDITION TO SELLING BOOKS THROUGH THE WESTPORT BOOK SHOP, THE COMPANY ALSO SOLD BOOKS ONLINE, AND AT PERIODIC MULTI-DAY BOOK SALE EVENTS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES WORKED AN AGGREGATE OF AROUND 2,400 HOURS OF PAID EMPLOYMENT, MOSTLY AT THE WESTPORT BOOK SHOP, BUT ALSO AT THE COMPANY'S BOOK SALE EVENTS, AND AT THE BOOK DONATION CENTER WHERE BOOK DONATIONS ARE RECEIVED AND PROCESSED. AS A RESULT OF REVENUES RAISED FROM THE SALE OF USED BOOKS, THE COMPANY MADE GRANTS TO THE WESTPORT LIBRARY TOTALING $50,000 IN THE FISCAL YEAR COVERED BY THIS REPORT.
IN LATE CALENDAR YEAR 2020, THE COMPANY BEGAN SELLING USED BOOKS ONLINE USING EBAY. THIS WORK WAS PERFORMED SOLELY BY VOLUNTEERS THROUGHOUT THE PERIOD COVERED BY THIS REPORT. IN LATE CALENDAR YEAR 2022, THE COMPANY DETERMINED TO EXPAND ITS EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM AND PROVIDE EMPLOYEES WITH DISABILITIES EMPLOYMENT AND JOB TRAINING IN ITS EBAY BUSINESS. THE COMPANY APPLIED FOR AND WAS AWARDED A GRANT FROM THE CONNECTICUT DEPARTMENT OF DISABILITY SERVICES TO BE USED TO PURCHASE THE EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES NECESSARY TO BEGIN THIS EXPANDED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM, AND TO MARKET IT. THE COMPANY EXPENDED $13,955 OF THE GRANT FUNDS IN THE FISCAL PERIOD COVERED BY THIS REPORT. THE COMPANY INITIATED A PILOT EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAM IN ITS EBAY BUSINESS FOR ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES IN AUGUST 2023 (AFTER THE END OF THE FISCAL PERIOD COVERED BY THIS REPORT.
