PROGRAMS TO IMPROVE LEARNING EQUITY AND ACCESS (EARLY LEARNING, COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS, SCHOLARSHIPS, ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY FUND, LEARNING TOOLS):OUR WORK SUPPORTED BVSD STUDENTS OF ALL AGES AND STAGES OF LEARNING. IN JUNE 2024, 274 INCOMING KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ACCESSED FOUR WEEKS OF SUMMER INSTRUCTION TO ENSURE THEY BEGAN SCHOOL AS PREPARED AS THEIR PEERS. IOE ALSO AWARDED $28,500 IN POST-SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIPS, COVERED OVER $42,000 IN ADVANCED COURSEWORK AND EXAM FEES FOR COLLEGE CREDIT, AND RAN A SUCCESSFUL CAREER READINESS ACADEMY AT THREE HIGH SCHOOLS WHERE 75 STUDENTS ACCESSED PROFESSIONAL SKILLS AND CAREER GUIDANCE FROM LOCAL PROFESSIONALS. WE ALSO INVESTED OVER $158,000 THROUGH 141 ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY FUND GRANTS, ALLOWING EDUCATORS TO ACCESS RESOURCES TO SUPPORT STUDENT LEARNING, INCLUDING 1:1 TUTORING, LIBRARY MATERIALS, AND CURRICULUM FOR NEWCOMER STUDENTS. WE DISTRIBUTED NEW BACKPACKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO NEARLY 5,000 STUDENTS IN NEED AT THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND PROVIDED MULTI-CULTURAL ART SUPPLIES FOR 17,000 STUDENTS.
PROGRAMS TO SUPPORT STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL-BEING, AND ADDRESS ACUTE CRISES:THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY FOR OVER 13,000 BVSD STUDENTS. THIS INCLUDES FUNDING SIX HIGH SCHOOL WELLNESS CENTERS STAFFED BY MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS, AND UNDERWRITING RACIAL TRAUMA COUNSELING, BILINGUAL MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT, AND SCHOOL-BASED EDUCATION EVENTS FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS. IN ADDITION, WE CONTINUED TO SERVE STUDENTS DISPLACED BY THE MARSHALL FIRE BY PROVIDING EXTRA TUTORING, IN-SCHOOL MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT, AFTER-SCHOOL CARE, AND TRANSPORTATION STIPENDS. IOE FURTHER SUPPORTED MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVES WITHIN BVSD THROUGH $0.7M IN FUNDS THAT WERE GRANTED IN THE PRIOR FISCAL YEAR, WHICH WERE USED TO SUPPORT MENTAL HEALTH PERSONNEL IN THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR.
PROGRAM TO RECOGNIZE AND EMPOWER EDUCATORS:THE IMPACT AWARDS HONOR INDIVIDUALS IN BVSD WHO ARE MAKING AN EXTRAORDINARY IMPACT ON STUDENT LEARNING. SINCE 1993, THE IMPACT AWARDS HAVE RECOGNIZED HUNDREDS OF EDUCATORS TEACHERS, CUSTODIANS, OFFICE MANAGERS, FOOD SERVICE EMPLOYEES, CROSSING GUARDS, AND MORE FROM EACH SCHOOL ACROSS BVSD. IOE ALSO SUPPORTS EDUCATORS THROUGH THE ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITY FUND GRANTS REFERENCED ABOVE.
