THE ORGANIZATION WILL SEEK AND PERFORM CONTRACTS WITH U.S. GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND OTHER U.S. ENTITIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF ADVANCING THE INTERESTS OF THE PDF INDUSTRY IN THE U.S. AND WORLDWIDE. CURRENTLY, THE ORGANIZATION HAS A $1,300,000 ONE-YEAR EXTENSION OF A $684,750 THREE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH THE DEFENSE ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS AGENCY ("DARPA"), BASED IN ARLINGTON, VA, TO PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT ENTITLED "SAFEDOCS" TO IMPROVE SECURITY IN ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT FORMATS INCLUDING PDF. AS A GLOBALLY UBIQUITOUS TECHNOLOGY, PDF IS A KEY SUBJECT OF INTEREST FOR GOVERNMENT AGENCIES INTERESTED IN CYBER-SECURITY. SAFEDOCS' OBJECTIVE IS TO DEVELOP NOVEL PROGRAMMING METHODOLOGIES TO ENHANCE FILE FORMAT SECURITY FOR OTHERS TO USE IN THEIR OWN PRODUCTS AS A MEANS OF REDUCING RISKS FROM MALICIOUS FILES & SOFTWARES.
THE ORGANIZATION WILL BE ENGAGING IN PUBLIC RELATIONS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS MEMBERSHIP DRIVES, LOBBYING GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND CORPORATIONS, PRESENTATIONS AT THIRD PARTY EVENTS AND ITS OWN EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCES TO BE CARRIED OUT PRIMARILY BY U.S. MEMBERS OF ADDS MEMBERS, CONSULTANTS INCLUDING ITS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AND THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD MEMBERS.
THE ORGANIZATION WILL EXPAND ADDS'S EXISTING PRACTICE OF PROMOTING AND DISSEMINATING TECHNICAL STANDARDS, GUIDELINES AND BEST PRACTICE MATERIALS FOR THE PDF COMMUNITY, ADDS MEMBERS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC, INCLUDING - POTENTIALLY MATERIALS FOR SALE. THE ACTIVITIES WILL BE CARRIED OUT PRIMARILY BY U.S. MEMBERS OF ADDS, CONSULTANTS INCLUDING ITS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AND THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD MEMBERS. THESE ACTIVITIES WILL FURTHER THE ORGANIZATION'S EXEMPT PURPOSES BY ADVANCING U.S. INDUSTRY AND REGULATORS' AWARENESS AND ADOPTION OF BEST PRACTICES IN PDF TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION.
