GOAL 17 PARTNERS CONVENED A GROUP OF PARTNERS TO HOST A CONVENING SPACE AT THE WEF ANNUAL MEETING IN DAVOS TO HOST A RANGE OF DISCUSSIONS AND ACTIVATIONS ON THE ROLE OF PARTNERSHIPS AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR ON ACHIEVEMENT OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS. THE ACTIVITIES INCLUDED ROUNDTABLE AND PANEL DISCUSSIONS IN ADDITION TO BREAKFASTS, LUNCHES, RECEPTIONS AND DINNERS. COMMUNICATIONS ACTIVITIES WERE ORGANIZED AROUND EACH EVENT, TO ENSURE CONTENT WAS SHARED WITH ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS NOT ABLE TO BE THERE IN PERSON FOR THE EVENTS THEMSELVES, AND RESULTS INCLUDED NEW PARTNERSHIPS FOR GOAL 17 PARTNERS AS WELL AS THE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WHO COLLABORATED ON THE SPACE.
THE COVID CRISIS BROUGHT BACK INTO SHARP FOCUS THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF ROBUST PUBLIC/PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS IN SOLVING COMPLEX GLOBAL PROBLEMS. THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO HARNESS THAT POWER AND USE IT TO SOLVE SOME OF THE WORLD'S OTHER PRESSING HEALTH ISSUES. THE WISDOM COUNCIL SERIES ENGAGED PRIVATE SECTOR PLAYERS BY USING THEIR INNOVATION AND OTHER CAPABILITIES TO GARNER NEW APPROACHES TO SOLVE THE MOST CURRENT, CHALLENGING GLOBAL HEALTH ISSUES. BY CONVENING IN THIS STIMULATING DEEPLY THOUGHTFUL MANNER, OUR FOUR SESSIONS ENGAGED 40 PRIVATE SECTOR PLAYERS. WE HELPED THEM NAVIGATE A COMPLEX GLOBAL HEALTH ECOSYSTEM, WHILE WORKING ON CRUCIAL PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED. WE THEN MAKE IT REAL BY OUTLINING ACTIONABLE ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE GLOBAL FUND, GAVI AND OTHER GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS. THROUGH THIS EXERCISE, GOAL 17 AND HANDSHAKE IDENTIFIED THE NEED FOR A DIFFERENT TYPE OF INTERMEDIARY ROLE IN THE GLOBAL HEALTH ECOSYSTEM THAT CAN THOUGHTFULLY PROVIDE A PIPELINE OF ENGAGEMENT AND SERVE AS A BROKER OF SORTS BETWEEN THE PRIVATE SECTOR AND GLOBAL HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS. AS EVERY COMPANY IS REINVENTING ITSELF IN LIGHT OF TECH ADVANCES AND COVID-19, SO MUST WE FIND INNOVATIVE WAYS TO CHANGE THE MODEL AND SOLVE GLOBAL HEALTH PROBLEMS.
