Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR UNOWNED NEIGHBORHOOD CATS AND THE COMMUNITY THEY LIVE IN BY REDUCING OVERPOPULATION THROUGH TRAP, NEUTER, RETURN (TNR).
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
TNR PROGRAM: TRAP- NEUTER-RETURN (TNR) IS THE ONLY NON-LETHAL THREE-STEP METHOD TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF FREE ROAMING CATS BOTH IMMEDIATELY AND IN THE LONG TERM. TO PUT IT SIMPLY, IT IS THE GOLD STANDARD. ONE OF THE CORNERSTONES OF INDIANAPOLIS IS A DEEP-ROOTED RESPONSIBILITY FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND SERVICE. OUR ORGANIZATION SEEKS TO BUILD A LASTING AND THRIVING TNR PROGRAM THAT RECRUITS AND GUIDES THE CITIZENS OF OUR CITY TO WORK TOGETHER AND MANAGE THE CAT POPULATION, MUCH LIKE THE WELL-KNOWN NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM. ALONG WITH OUR TNR PROGRAM, INDY NEIGHBORHOOD CATS IS IN THE FIELD PROVIDING ONGOING COLONY CARE SUPPORT SUCH AS WARM WINTER SHELTERS, FOOD, SPAY/NEUTER RESOURCES AND MEDICAL CARE TO CATS LIVING OUTDOORS IN INDIANAPOLIS.OUR ORGANIZATION'S BOARD MEMBERS HAVE OVER 50 YEARS OF COLLECTIVE ANIMAL WELFARE AND PROGRAM MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE. WE ARE WORKING ON A STRATEGIC PLAN WITH INDIANAPOLIS ANIMAL CARE SERVICES TO IDENTIFY THE AREAS OF OUR CITY WITH THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF KITTEN AND CAT SURRENDERS IN OUR CITIES MOST VULNERABLE NEIGHBORHOODS
CARE PROGRAM: MEDICAL CARE OR INJURED/ILL COMMUNITY CATS WHEN NEEDED
WINTER SHELTER PROGRAM: WE PROVIDE LIFE SUSTAINING SHELTERS THE INDY NEIGHBORHOOD CATS WINTER SHELTER PROGRAM COLLECTS, BUILDS AND DISTRIBUTES BETWEEN 1000-1500 CAT SHELTERS EACH YEAR. WINTERS IN INDIANAPOLIS CAN BE TOUGH ON OUR COMMUNITY CATS. THOUGH THEY TOLERATE COLD MUCH BETTER THAN MANY OF OUR FURRY FRIENDS, CATS RELY ON OUR SHELTER BUILDS TO PROVIDE THEM WARMTH AND SAFETY IN FREEZING TEMPERATURES.
CAT FOOD PANTRY SUPPORT: WE PARTNER WITH FRIENDS OF INDIANAPOLIS DOGS OUTSIDE (FIDO). NUTRITION IS VITAL TO KEEPING CATS HEALTHY. WE UNDERSTAND THAT FEEDING LARGE GROUPS OF CATS CAN PROVIDE CHALLENGES. FIDO RUNS THE LARGEST PET FOOD PANTRY IN INDIANAPOLIS. INDY NEIGHBORHOOD CATS HELPS FUNDRAISE FOR CAT FOOD AND WE ARE ON SITE TWICE A WEEK TO ASSIST WITH PANTRY OPERATIONS. THIS REMOVES DUPLICATION OF EFFORT AND IT KEEPS US FACE TO FACE WITH COMMUNITY CAT CARETAKERS WITH THE GREATEST NEED.
