THE ORGANIZATION FACILITATES COLLABORATION AMONG THOSE ENGAGED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST TRAFFICKING.

OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, MISSISSIPPIANS AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING (MSAHT) HAS PUSHED FOR LEGISLATION THAT PROVIDES MORE SERVICES FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING VICTIMS, CREATES A SPECIAL FUND TO SUPPLEMENT VICTIMS' RESOURCES, IMPOSES HARSHER PENALTIES ON PERPETRATORS, AND PROVIDES ADDITIONAL TRAINING FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CHILD PROTECTION WORKERS.MISSISSIPPIANS AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING CONTINUED ITS MISSION IN 2022 TO PROMOTE AWARENESS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING. SPECIFICALLY, MSAHT WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE TO PROVIDE A SERIES OF TRAINING VIDEOS AND RESOURCES ON HOW TO IDENTIFY SIGNS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING. IN ADDITION TO VIDEOS CREATED TO APPRISE THE PUBLIC OF TRAFFICKING IN MISSISSIPPI, SPECIFIC VIDEOS WERE AIMED AT TRAINING INDIVIDUALS WHO WORK IN PROFESSIONS THEY MIGHT COME IN PROXIMITY WITH A TRAFFICKED INDIVIDUAL SUCH AS BANKING, EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE SERVICES, AND OTHER SECTORS TO GIVE AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT TRAFFICKING LOOKS LIKE, AS WELL AS TIPS ON HOW TO IDENTIFY IT AND TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION.PUBLIC AWARENESS EVENTS, INCLUDING SPEECHES AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES, WERE ORGANIZED BY MSAHT AS PART OF ITS EFFORTS TO RAISE PUBLIC AWARENESS. MSAHT ALSO LED THE EFFORT TO LOCATE, RENOVATE, AND ESTABLISH THE STATE'S ONLY HOME FOR ADOLESCENT TRAFFICKING VICTIMS. MSAHT LEADERSHIP HAS ALSO PURSUED AND BEEN AWARDED FUNDING FOR AN INDEPENDENT LIVING PROGRAM TO SUPPORT AT-RISK YOUTH.
