Part 3
ALTHOUGH MANY CHALLENGES PERSISTED IN 2021 WITH THE IMPACT OF COVID WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, THE ORGANIZATION REMAINED STEADFAST IN THEIR MISSION AND CONTINUED TO SERVE. WITH THE GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM DONORS 12,835 FAMILIES AND 20,728 INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED IN MITCHELL, AVERY AND YANCEY COUNTIES. OVER 727,125 POUNDS OF FOOD WERE DISTRIBUTED AND THREE COMMUNITY MEALS FED OVER 1,400 PEOPLE. IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER 1,240 COATS WERE PROVIDED TO CHILDREN IN THE TRI COUNTY AREA AND CLASSROOMS WERE FULLY STOCKED AT FIVE AREA SCHOOLS AT NO COST TO PARENTS AND TEACHERS. QUICK, ON THE GO, READY TO EAT SNACK PACKS WERE GIVEN TO CHILDREN. THE ELDERLY BENEFITED FROM THESE SNACKPACKS AS WELL AS 750 NUTRITIOUS FOOD BOXES BEING DELIVERED WHEN QUALIFYING UNDER THE COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM. LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS CALLED UPON THE ORGANIZATION TO DELIVER FOOD TO PEOPLE WHO WERE QUARANTINED AND OFTENTIMES THESE DELIVERIES WERE THE ONLY SOURCE OF FOOD AVAILABLE. COVID PROCEDURES LIMITED THE SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE ORGANIZATION AND DECREASED THE AMOUNT OF VOLUNTEERS TO HELP. HOWEVER, THE ORGANIZATION UTILIZED AVAILABLE RESOURCES TO CONTINUE REACHING THE COMMUNITY AND MAKING THE BASIC NEED OF FOOD READILY AVAILABLE TO THE FOLKS WHO WOULD OTHERWISE DO WITHOUT.
