THE DEMPSEY CENTER IS COMMITTED TO MAKING LIFE BETTER FOR PEOPLE MANAGING THE IMPACT OF CANCER. THROUGH THE PROVISION OF A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES KNOWN TO EASE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF CANCER, THE DEMPSEY CENTER WORKS WITH YOUTH AND ADULT CANCER PATIENTS, SURVIVORS AND CAREGIVERS. SERVICES INCLUDE COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES LIKE ONCOLOGY MASSAGE AND ACUPUNCTURE, INDIVIDUAL AND FAMILY COUNSELING, NUTRITION EDUCATION, MOVEMENT AND FITNESS CLASSES, SUPPORT GROUPS AND CANCER RESOURCE NAVIGATION. DEMPSEY CENTER SERVICES PROVIDE PEOPLE WITH CANCER-RELATED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND TOOLS IN INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP SETTINGS. SEE SCHEDULE OSTRIVING TO EMBRACE THE WHOLE PERSON USING A COLLABORATIVE AND HOLISTIC APPROACH, DEMPSEY CENTER OFFERS A FULL RANGE OF SUPPORT, EDUCATION, COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES, AND PREVENTION RESOURCES RELATED TO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THOSE MANAGING THE IMPACT OF CANCER REGARDLESS OF WHERE THEY ARE RECEIVING MEDICAL TREATMENT. SPECIFIC SERVICES AND PROGRAMS INCLUDE ONCOLOGY AND BEREAVEMENT COUNSELING; HEALING TREE YOUTH AND FAMILY SUPPORT; ONCOLOGY MASSAGE, REIKI AND ACUPUNCTURE SESSIONS; WIG AND HEADWEAR FITTINGS; NUTRITION AND MOVEMENT CONSULTS AND WORKSHOPS; CANCER PREVENTION EDUCATION AND HEALTH SCREENINGS. MORE THAN 9,000 UNITS OF SERVICE WERE PROVIDED, INCLUDING OVER TWO-THOUSAND MASSAGE, REIKI AND ACUPUNCTURE SESSIONS; OVER SIXTEEN HUNDRED COUNSELING SESSIONS INCLUDING YOUTH AND FAMILY SUPPORT; MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND SESSIONS OF RESOURCE NAVIGATION THROUGH DEMPSEY CENTER ORIENTATIONS AND FOLLOW-UP; MORE THAN A THOUSAND INSTANCES OF MOVEMENT & FITNESS, NUTRITION, WELLNESS, AND EDUCATION PROGRAMMING AND WORKSHOPS, INCLUDING CANCER PREVENTION AND HEALTH ACTIVITIES. IN EARLY 2020, DEMPSEY CENTER SWIFTLY ADAPTED TO THE GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC WHEN PHYSICAL DOORS WERE CLOSED BY INTRODUCING CARING CALLS, WHEREBY MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND WELLBEING CALLS WERE MADE TO CLIENTS ISOLATED WHILE MANAGING THE IMPACT OF A CANCER DIAGNOSIS.
