INTEGRATED CAPITAL SOLUTIONS BII MANAGES A NONPROFIT CHARITABLE LOAN FUND THAT HAS INVESTED NEARLY 7.1 MILLION SINCE INCEPTION IN INTEGRATED CAPITAL INVESTMENTS (DEBT, EQUITY AND GRANTS) ACROSS 73 REGENERATIVE LOCAL ENTERPRISES THAT ARE OWNED AND CONTROLLED BY ENTREPRENEURS OF COLOR OR ARE SERVING COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. BII MAKES INVESTMENTS RANGING FROM 50,000 TO 300,000 IN FOR-PROFIT ENTERPRISES, NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, COOPERATIVES AND SOME REAL ESTATE. BII SELECTS THE BEST CAPITAL INSTRUMENTS FOR THE STAGE AND NEEDS OF EACH ORGANIZATION IN WHICH IT INVESTS. WE INVEST IN ALL SECTORS AND ALL STAGES OF ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT, FROM PRE-REVENUE START-UPS TO GROWTH ENTERPRISES SEEKING SERIES A FINANCING. IN 2021, BII FUND MADE 14 IMPACT INVESTMENTS TOTALING 1,402,334.
FIELD-BUILDING ACTIVITIES BII ALSO PROVIDES ADVISORY SERVICES, EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR FELLOW INVESTORS AND PHILANTHROPISTS TO CHALLENGE CONVENTIONAL BELIEFS ABOUT OWNERSHIP, COMPETITION, PROFIT-MAKING AND CONTROL--AND ADVANCE FRESH PERSPECTIVES ON DEMOCRATIZING INVESTMENT, STRENGTHENING RELATIONSHIPS AND BUILDING SOLIDARITY. TO EDUCATE THE FIELD IN IMPACT INVESTING, BII CREATED THE INTEGRATED CAPITAL CARD DECK PROGRAM TO HELP FUND MANAGERS, FUNDERS AND IMPACT INVESTORS LEARN HOW TO DEPLOY INTEGRATED CAPITAL TO CLOSE THE RACIAL WEALTH DIVIDE. THROUGH OFFERING ADVISORY SUPPORT, BII HELPS INDIVIDUAL AND INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS DIRECT A PORTION OF THEIR PORTFOLIOS TOWARD PLACE-BASED IMPACT INVESTING.
BII FUND BUILDING COHORT BII IS ALSO EXPANDING THE FIELD OF IMPACT INVESTORS NATIONALLY THROUGH ITS BII FUND BUILDING COHORT PROGRAM. BETWEEN APRIL 2020 AND OCTOBER 2021, BII HOSTED AN 18-MONTH PROGRAM THAT ENGAGED EXISTING AND PROSPECTIVE FUND MANAGERS IN DEVELOPING THE FINANCIAL RIGOR AND MULTI- STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT PROCESS TO STRUCTURE, RAISE AND MANAGE A BLENDED CAPITAL FUND. THE PURPOSE OF THESE COHORT FUNDS IS TO BUILD SUSTAINABLE, INCLUSIVE AND EQUITABLE LOCAL ECONOMIES THAT RESTORE THE PRODUCTIVE CAPACITY OF COMMUNITIES OF COLOR. THE COHORT PROGRAM INCLUDED 33 PARTICIPANTS FROM 11 COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. BII CONTINUES TO SUPPORT COHORT MEMBERS THROUGH DIRECT 1:1 COACHING AND INTRODUCTIONS TO INVESTOR NETWORKS. WE ANTICIPATE THAT PARTICIPANTS WILL LAUNCH NEW FUNDS OR FOCUS AND STRENGTHEN THE FUNDS WITH WHICH THEY ARE ALREADY ENGAGED.
