HOSPICE PET ADVOCATES PROVIDES PRE-PLANNING ASSISTANCE, EDUCATION, EMERGENCY RESCUE SERVICES AND ADVOCACY TO PET OWNERS FACING A TERMINAL OR LIFE-LIMITING ILLNESS. WE WORK WITH HOSPICE AND HOMECARE PROVIDERS TO PREVENT THE NEGLECT OR ABANDONMENT OF PETS DUE TO OWNER ILLNESS, DECOMPENSATION OR DEATH. WE ALSO RESPOND TO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, PROVIDING MEDICAL AND EMOTIONAL CARE TO ANIMALS AWAITING ADOPTION OR TRANSFER TO SHELTERS. WE PROVIDE EDUCATION TO HOMECARE WORKERS ON RECOGNIZING AND INTERVENING EARLY ON, PROVIDING PRE-PLANNING HELP AND GUIDANCE TO PATIENTS WITH BARRIERS, AND HOUSING ANIMALS THAT HAVE IMMEDIATE CARE NEEDS. WE RAISE AWARENESS IN THE LARGER COMMUNITY ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF PRE-PLANNING FOR PETS IN EMERGENCIES, AS WELL AS PROVIDE TOOLS TO HELP PET OWNERS DEVELOP A PLAN AND RESPOND TO CONTINGENCIES.
