THE ORGANIZATION WAS ORGANIZED FOR THE PURPOSE OF CHARITABLE AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES. ITS MISSION IS TO CREATE ECONOMIC & SOCIAL IMPACT BY LEADING THE COMMUNITY'S EFFORTS TO ATTRACT, SUPPORT & PROMOTE YOUTH AMATEUR, COLLEGIATE & RECREATIONAL EVENTS.

BID EVENTS: THE DSC WON THE RIGHTS TO HOST THE NAIA 2021 & 2022 FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND SENIOR FOOTBALL CLASSIC GAMES HELD AT DURHAM COUNTY MEMORIAL STADIUM. THE FIRST-EVER NAIA CHAMPIONSHIP HOSTED IN DURHAM, THE 2021 EVENT GENERATED 536K IN ECONOMIC IMPACT, WITH FANS TRAVELING FROM 29 STATES TO CATCH THE ACTION.


OWNED EVENTS: THE INAUGURAL HIGH SCHOOL HOLIDAY BASKETBALL INVITATIONAL CHAMPION DURHAM CLASSIC MARKED THE FIRST EVENT THE DSC DEVELOPED, OWNED, AND OPERATED. THIRTEEN PARTICIPATING TEAMS, SIX OF THEM LOCAL TO DURHAM, TOOK THE COURT AT NCCU'S MCDOUGALD-MCLENDON ARENA, PLAYING HIGH-LEVEL BALL IN FRONT OF RECRUITING COLLEGE COACHES, FRIENDS, AND FANS. THE EVENT SHOWCASED LOCAL TALENT AND CONNECTED THE SPORTS COMMISSION TO COMMUNITY IN A MORE VISIBLE WAY.


GRANTS: THE DURHAM SPORTS COMMISSION IS CHARGED WITH CREATING ECONOMIC IMPACT THROUGH SPORTS AND PROVIDES OVER 100,000 IN GRANTS TO LOCAL DURHAM EVENTS EACH YEAR. AS THE COST OF YOUTH SPORTS PARTICIPATION CONTINUES TO RISE, THE DSC CONSIDERS ONE TEAM ONE DURHAM (1T1D) AS AN IMPORTANT STEP, LEADING THE COMMUNITY'S EFFORTS TO ALLOW FOR GREATER ACCESS TO THE BENEFITS OF SPORT.
