BRING QUALITY THEATER TO UNDERSERVED RURAL AREA AS WELL AS CREATING COMMUNITY TIES BETWEEN PRODUCTION STAFF AND LOCAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS

CEDAR SUMMERSTOCK THEATER ANNUALLY PRODUCES FOUR PERFORMANCES IN RURAL OSAGE, IOWA. IT MARKETS TO THE MITCHELL COUNTY AREA. SHOWS ARE DIRECTED BY PROFESSIONALS IN THE THEATER INDUSTRY, UTILIZING COLLEGE LEVEL ACTORS AND TECHNICIANS. THE PURPOSE IS TO BRING QUALITY THEATER TO UNDERSERVED RURAL AREAS, PROVIDE A MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCE FOR COLLEGE ACTORS AND TECHNICIANS, AND CREATE COMMUNITY TIES BETWEEN RURAL RESIDENTS AND THE COMPANY THAT PRODUCES THE SHOWS. WE TRY TO FOSTER A LOVE OF THE ARTS IN AN AREA THAT WOULD NOT OTHERWISE HAVE EXPOSURE. OUR REVENUES WERE SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID AND WE WERE FORTUNATE TO RECEIVE GENEROUS GOVERNMENT GRANTS THAT ALLOWED US TO CONTINUE OUR SEASON.


PROVIDE A COMMUNITY THEATER CAMP. GRANT IS FROM THE CITY OF OSAGE, IA THE CAMP WAS TO EXPOSE LOCAL CHILDREN IN THE RURAL MITCHELL COUNTY AREA TO THE THEATER ARTS. COLLEGE LEVEL AND ONE PROFESSIONAL THEATER PERFORMERS CONDUCT A CAMP TO TEACH CHILDREN THE LOVE OF PERFORMANCE WHILE CONNECTING THE PERFORMERS FROM ALL AREAS OF THE COUNTRY TO THE RESIDENTS OF MITCHELL COUNTY IOWA
