FISCALLY SPONSORED PROGRAMSSESEC FISCALLY SPONSORED THE FOLLOWING PROJECTS THE TESFA PROJECT - AN ETHIOPIAN COMMUNITY PUBLIC HEALTH OUTREACH AND EDUCATION PROJECT FOCUSED ON COVID-19. IT USED MULTI-MEDIA OUTREACH CAMPAIGNS TO DISPEL MYTHS ABOUT THE PANDEMIC, SHARE INFORMATION ON GOOD DISTANCING PRACTICES, AND TO ENCOURAGE INDIVIDUALS TO GET VACCINATED. THE BEACON HILL INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL PTSA - A PROJECT THAT ENGAGES LOCAL INDIVIDUALS FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZING TO ENGAGE PARENTS IN THEIR CHILDRENS EDUCATION, AND TUTORING IN SPECIAL LANGUAGE AREAS. THE CLEVELAND HIGH SCHOOL STEM PROJECT - A PROJECT THAT ENGAGED GRADUATES OF CLEVELAND HIGH SCHOOL IN A SURVEY DESIGN AND ADMINISTRATION TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS ON WAYS TO IMPROVE FAMILY ENGAGEMENT.
COALITION - SESEC HOSTS MONTHLY COALITION MEETINGS WHERE TOPICS OF COMMUNITY INTEREST ARE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED AND COMMUNITY RECOMMENDATIONS ARE SHARED WITH THE PRESENTERS. TOPICS INCLUDE PLANNED CAPITAL EXPENDITURES BY SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, DISCIPLINARY POLICIES, EDUCATIONAL EQUITY AND JUSTICE, HISTORIES OF INDIGINOUS PEOPLES. SESEC ALSO HOSTS AN ANNUAL CONVERSATION ON RACE AND EQUITY.
ADVOCACY FAMILY ENGAGEMENT - SESEC MANAGES A BI-ANNUAL FAMILY ENGAGEMENT SURVEY TO ASSESS OPINIONS OF FAMILIES OF COLOR ON THE ENGAGEMENT AND COMMUNICIATION PRACTICES OF LOCAL SCHOOLS. THE SURVEY RESULTS ARE USED TO AFFECT POSITIVE CHANGES IN THOSE PRACTICES TO MAKE THEM MORE CULTURALLY AWARE AND TO MAKE SCHOOLS A MORE INVITING AND WELCOMING PLACE FOR FAMILIES OF COLOR AND IMMIGRANT/REFUGEE FAMILIES. THIS ALSO INCLUDES ADVOCACY AND POLICY COHORT PROGRAMS WHICH IMMERSE EMERGING COMMUNITY LEADERS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS IN DISCUSSIONS THAT DEMYSTIFY EDUCATIONAL POLICIES, PREPARES PARTICIPANTS TO EFFECTIVTY ADVOCATE AND DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO HEIGHTEN PARTICIPATION IN SCHOOLS AND OTHER CIVIC FORUMS.
