Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
IN 2021 COMMONS INTERNATIONAL DONATED $6000 TO ELEVATE WATER. $19,000 TO BUILD A LIBRARY IN GULU UGANDA, AND $95,000 TO SUPPORT OPERATIONS AT ELEPHANTE COMMONS, A BUSINESS INCUBATOR IN GULU UGANDA. DETAILS OF EACH ARE LISTED BELOW. ELEVATE WATER: WITH THE SOLE MISSION OF GETTING AFFORDABLE, CLEAN DRINKING WATER INTO THE HOMES OF EVERYONE IN GULU, ELEVATE WATER (FORMERLY JIBU WATER) PROVIDES CLEAN DRINKING WATER IN REUSABLE BOTTLES. LIBRARY: THERE IS CURRENTLY NO PUBLIC LIBRARY IN GULU UGANDA. IN CONJUNCTION WITH PANGEA EDUCATION (A LITERACY BASED NONPROFIT WHICH WILL PROVIDE BOOKS, TEACHERS, AND LIBRARIANS) WE ARE BUILDING A BUILDING ON THE ELEPHANTE PROPERTY TO HOLD DONATED BOOKS AS WELL AS SERVE AS A MEETING SPACE FOR LITERACY TRAINING, READING EVENTS, LOCAL BOOK RELEASES AND OTHER ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE LITERACY IN THE COMMUNITY. ELEPHANTE COMMONS: A GATHERING POINT AND BUSINESS INCUBATOR TO RESTART AND IMPROVE CONDITIONS IN GULU UGANDA AFTER DECADES OF WAR. IMAGINE EVERYTHING YOUR FAMILY HAD BEEN WORKING TOWARDS FOR GENERATIONS - SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, BUSINESSES, AND HOMES ALL DESTROYED BY ONE REBEL GROUP (LORDS RESISTANCE ARMY) RUNNING RAMPANT THROUGH YOUR TOWN. EVERYTHING HAD TO BE REBUILT, AND WITH LITTLE SUPPORT FROM THE REST OF THE COUNTRY, GULU IS STILL PLAYING CATCH UP. 60+ YEARS OF INTERNATIONAL AID WORK AND RESEARCH HAS TAUGHT US THE STRONGEST ASSET FOR DEVELOPMENT HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOCALS WHO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF COMMUNITY-BASED SOLUTIONS ON THE GROUND. WE EXIST TO PROVE THIS RIGHT. WE ARE BETTING ON THE ACHOLI PEOPLE; THEIR VISION, THEIR EXPERTISE, THEIR PASSION, AND WE'VE ALREADY WON. WE PROVIDE A MULTIPURPOSE SPACE THAT UNITES THE WHOLE COMMUNITY. WE ARE UNITING LEADERS WHO WORK SIDE BY SIDE UNDER ONE ROOF. WE UNITE FRIENDS OVER A MEAL OR GAMES, AND WE UNITE OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR HOSPITALITY AND RESPECT FOR EVERYONE WHO COMES THROUGH OUR GATES. FOR EXAMPLE: INNOVATION SPACES WHERE ELEVATE WATER CAN MANUFACTURER CLEAN DRINKING WATER AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE FOR GULU. EDUCATIONAL SPACES WHERE BRENDA CAN LEARN HOW TO READ SO SHE CAN BRING HER KIDS TO OUR LIBRARY AND READ BOOKS WITH THEM. COWORKING SPACES WHERE HASHTAG GULU CAN COLLABORATE WITH TAKATAKA PLASTICS ON EMPLOYING KIDS WHO LIVE AND WORK ON THE STREET. CREATIVE SPACES WHERE VAVA CAN TEACH ART CLASSES, AND SUSAN AND BOSCO CAN SELL THEIR LOCALLY MADE CRAFT PRODUCTS.
