THE TRAVEL BASKETBALL PROGRAM HAD A SUCCESSFUL 2021 FISCAL YEAR, WHICH RECOVERED FROM THE IMPACT OF THE WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC. WE SUBSEQUENTLY FORMED 10 TEAMS COMPRISED OF 100 ATHLETES, PRACTICING TWICE A WEEK FOR FOUR MONTHS. OUR MAIN SPRING/SUMMER SEASON TRYOUTS DREW APPROXIMATELY 850 ATHLETES FROM WHICH WE FORMED 46 TRAVEL TEAMS THAT INCLUDED 450 ATHLETES, GRADES 4 THROUGH 11. THROUGH THE WINTER AND SPRING/SUMMER PRACTICES, OUR COACHES WERE STILL ABLE TO SHARE 700+ CHARACTER LESSONS WITH 550 ATHLETES THESE LESSONS ARE BASED ON SCRIPTURE AND CORRELATE WITH SPORTS AND EVERY-DAY LIFE. CHARACTER LESSON TOPICS, JUST TO LIST A FEW, HAVE INCLUDED: TEAMWORK, WISDOM, LEADERSHIP, PERSEVERANCE, EFFORT, DISCIPLINE, INTEGRITY, COURAGE, COMMITMENT, AND SERVICE. OUR DEVELOPMENTAL CLINICS, CAMPS, AND INTERNAL LEAGUES BROADENED IN SCOPE, REACHING YOUNGER ATHLETES BEGINNING AT THE 1ST GRADE LEVEL. WE REACHED NEARLY 3,000 ATHLETES THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS. WE OFFERED HALF AND FULL DAY SUMMER CAMPS, ELITE AND ADVANCED PLAYER CAMPS, SHOOTING CAMPS, HOLIDAY CLINICS, HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL PREP CLINICS, AND MANY MORE. CHARACTER LESSONS WERE SHARED AT THE OPENING AND/OR CLOSING OF EVERY CAMP DAY. WE CONTINUED TO HOLD OUR HALLOWEEN HOOPS 3V3 AS WELL AS NEW YEAR'S EVE 3V3 TOURNAMENTS. THESE PROGRAMS REACH ATHLETES FROM BASKETBALL PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT MIDDLE TENNESSEE.
IN MAY 2020, WE INITIATED THE STARS SHOOTING LAB, WHICH OFFERS SESSIONS YEAR AROUND. WE PURCHASED MULTIPLE DR. DISH CT SHOOTING MACHINES TO OFFER SPECIALIZED TRAINING FOR ATHLETES TO EXPERIENCE MAXIMIZED SHOT REPETITIONS WITH INSTANT INSTRUCTION AND FEEDBACK. THIS PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO ELEMENTARY AGE ATHLETES THROUGH COLLEGE LEVEL ATHLETES. THIS PROGRAM ALLOWED ELITE ATHLETES TO BOOK SESSIONS TO IMPROVE THEIR SHOOTING DURING THE OFF SEASON, WEEKENDS, AND IN THEIR FREE TIME. WE INCORPORATE SCRIPTURE CONNECTED TO SPORTS THROUGH A STARS LAB NEWSLETTER, AND ALSO THROUGH THE LAB CORE TEACHING POINTS: FOUNDATION, BALANCE, AND FINISH. WE ALSO ADD A NEW PRODUCT, LAB PLUS(+), WHICH INCLUDES TIME ON THE SHOOTING MACHINES, SPEED/AGILITY TRAINING, AND TIME ON A VERTIMAX MACHINE. THE LAB PLUS(+) PRODUCT IS A SMALL-GROUP WORKOUT (NO MORE THAN FIVE ATHLETES), AND TARGETS UPPER-ELEMENTARY AGE ATHLETES THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES.
