Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
INTERNATIONAL FIRST COMMITTEE ASSOCIATION, HOLDING COMPETITIONS AS FIRST GLOBAL , IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHED TO EXCITE THE YOUTH AND NATIONS OF THE WORLD ABOUT THE VALUE OF INVESTING IN AND PURSUING STEM EDUCATION (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS) TO HELP BUILD THE SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS NEEDED BY NATIONS TO WORK ON GLOBAL CHALLENGES TOGETHER. DRIVEN BY THE ENTHUSIASM OF THE STUDENTS AS THEY COOPERATE IN TEAMS, EACH NATION IS INVITED TO ASSEMBLE THEIR OWN ROBOT AND SEND A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-TEAM TO REPRESENT ITS COUNTRY IN AN ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL OLYMPICS-STYLE ROBOTICS COMPETITION.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC REQUIRED A CONTINUED SHIFT FOR THE 2021 FIRST GLOBAL CHALLENGE. DESPITE NOT BEING ABLE TO CONVENE IN PERSON, 177 TEAMS REMAINED CONNECTED UNDER THE THEME OF DISCOVER & RECOVER COMPETING IN WEEKLY MINI-CHALLENGES TO GAIN POINTS TOWARDS THE LEADERBOARD. ADDITIONALLY, "THE SOLUTIONS CHALLENGE" WAS THE MAIN COMPONENT OF THE SEASON. UNDER THE THEME OF "DISCOVER & RECOVER," TEAMS WERE TASKED WITH IDENTIFYING A PANDEMIC-RELATED PROBLEM IN THEIR COMMUNITY IN THE AREA OF EDUCATION, ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH, OR ECONOMY, AND THEN CREATE A PROJECT TO SOLVE IT USING STEN WITHIN THE SPAN OF THE SEASON. IN A TIME WHERE THE EVENT COULD NOT BE HOSTED, INTERNATIONAL FIRST COMMITTEE ASSOCIATION, FIRST GLOBAL, EXPANDED THE VIRTUAL ENGAGEMENT FOR OUR FIRST GLOBAL COMMUNITY TO REMAIN CONNECTED. LIKE OTHER SEASONS, THERE WAS VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT, NATIONAL TEAMS, AND ENGAGEMENT THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA AND TECHNICAL CHALLENGES, TALKS BY STEM PROFESSIONALS, AND TECHNICAL TRAINING SESSIONS. THERE WERE AWARDS AND PRIZES GRANTED TO THE TEAMS WITH THE GREATEST ENGAGEMENT, AN AWARD TO CELEBRATE A TEAMS JOURNEY AND PERSEVERANCE THROUGHOUT THE SEASON, AND TO THE MOST INSPIRING MENTORS. THESE COMMUNITY-BASED MENTORS AND VOLUNTEERS RANGE FROM CIVIC MINDED HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS, TO UNIVERSITY ROBOTICS AND ENGINEERING STUDENTS AND PROFESSORS, AND PROVIDED TEAMS WITH MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, PROGRAMMING, AND STRATEGIC ADVICE.
