Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
SVAF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM GRANTED SCHOLARSHIPS TO 20 STUDENTS IN 2020. FUNDS PAID FOR, TUITION, BOOKS, FEES AND OTHER RELATED EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES. GRANTS ARE PAID IN TWO INSTALLMENTS, WITH THE INITIAL PAYMENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND THE SECOND PAYMENT MID-YEAR AFTER REVIEWING STUDENTS' PROGRESS AND GRADES. APPLICANTS FOR A GRANT MUST COMPLETE AN APPLICATION, OBTAIN TWO REFERENCE LETTERS, COMPLETE AN ESSAY ON THEIR EDUCATIONAL GOALS AND BE INTERVIEWED BY THE SVAF BOARD OR BY A BOARD MEMBER SELECTED BY THE BOARD. THE SELECTED PERSON MAKES THE FINAL DECISION FOR GRANTING THE SCHOLARSHIP. THE PROGRAM DOES NOT SEEK STUDENTS WITH THE HIGHEST GRADES AND ACHIEVEMENTS BUT RATHER PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIP GRANTS FOR STUDENTS LOOKING FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THEMSELVES.
UNFORTUNATELY, COVID AGAIN FORCED A CHANGE TO THE NORMAL CHRISTMAS PROGRAM THIS YEAR. INSTEAD OF MEETING SANTA, RECEIVING A GIFT AND TAKING A FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH WITH SANTA CLAUS ALONG WITH A FREE LUNCH FOR THE FAMILY SVAF CONDUCTED A DRIVE THRU FOR ALL STUDENTS WHO ATTEND GEORGE MAYNE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN ALVISO. A $50 TARGET GIFT CARD WAS HANDED OUT TO EACH FAMILY. ALSO, THIS YEAR SECOND HARVEST WAS PRESENT AND WAS HANDING OUT FROZEN TURKEYS TO ALL FAMILIES. 250 GIFT CARDS WERE HANDED OUT TO FAMILIES BY SANTA CLAUS AND MRS. CLAUS
COVID RESTRICTIONS WERE REMOVED DURING THE SUMMER OF 2021 ALLOWING THE ANT SWIMMING SCHOOL TO ONCE AGAIN OFFER FREE SWIMMING LESSONS TO ALVISO CHILDREN AND FREE SWIMMING FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY. THE SWIM PROGRAM IS 100% SUPPORTED BY SVAF.
