THE SOUTH DAKOTA ASSOCIATION OF THE DEAF (SDAD) IS KNOWN AS AN ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION. DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, SDAD CONTINUED TO ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE DEAF, HARD OF HEARING AND DEAF-BLIND BY PARTICIPATING IN NUMEROUS ZOOM MEETINGS. SDAD COLLABORATED WITH VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS COMMUNICATION SERVICE FOR THE DEAF (CSD), HANDS AND VOICES, SD SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF ADVISORY COUNCIL, STATEWIDE INDEPENDENT LIVING COUNCIL, BOARD OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION AND SD INTERPRETING ASSOCIATION-REGISTRY OF INTERPRETING FOR THE DEAF. SDAD ESTABLISHED AD HOC INTERPRETING TASKFORCE AND WORKED WITH VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF INTERPRETING SERVICES. SDAD PARTICIPATED IN THE COMMUNITY FORUMS AND CSD FOCUS GROUP. SDAD INCREASED THE USAGE OF SOCIAL MEDIA TO KEEP THE MEMBERS INFORMED ON SDAD ACTIVITIES. SDAD HOSTED A BOARD TRAINING FOR THE BOARD AND DEAF COMMUNITY.
