MEGAPOP WAS FOUNDED IN 2002 TO INCREASE BROADBAND AVAILABILITY IN THE NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI REGION THROUGH BETTER INFRASTRUCTURE, ECONOMIES OF SCALE AND EDUCTION IN ORDER TO FOSTER THE CREATION OF HIGH-SPEED INTERNET "POINTS OF PRESENCE" IN NORTH MISSISSIPPI THROUGH ENCOURAGING PUBLIC- PRIVATE AND COOPERATIVE PARTNERSHIPS. MEGAPOP'S GOALS INCLUDE IMPROVING ECONOMIC VIABILITY IN THE AREA, CREATING DEMAND FOR HIGH-SPEED INTERNET AND INCREASED BUILD-OUT OF "LAST MILE ACCESS".

THE ORGANIZATION UTILIZED LEASE INCOME FROM THE CAPITAL LEASE OF THE EXISTING FIBER OPTIC BACKBONE TO CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE FOR PROVIDING INCREASED ACCESS TO HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICES FOR THE REGION. CURRENTLY 15 ELECTRICAL COOPERATIVES ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING OUT FIBER NETWORKS, LEVERAGING LOANS THROUGH THE FCC'S RURAL DIGITAL OPPORTUNITY FUND TO PUSH INTO UNDERSERVED AREAS IN NORTH MISSISSIPPI. THE ORGANIZATION HOSTEDTHE DIGITAL INNOVATIONS CONVENTION/TRADE SHOW WHICH IS MISSISSIPI'S LEADING DIGITAL SECURITY, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, AND EDUCATION EVENT PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY TO NETOWRK WITH LEADING EXPERTS, STATE LEADERS AND REGIONAL PARTNERS
