THE MISSION OF THE INSTITUTE IS TO EMPOWER UNDERSERVED AND DISENFRANCHISED COMMUNITIES BY ADDRESSING SYSTMATIC SOCIAL ISSUES THROUGH LEGAL REPRESENTATION,RESEARCH,EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY.

THE GOAL IS TO PROMOTE HOUSING STABILITY AND TO INCREASE GENERATIONAL WEALTH THROUGH THE PREVENTION OF LAND LOSS AS A RESULT OF FAILURE TO PLAN ESTATES, FORECLOSURES, CLOUDS ON TITLE TO PROPERTY/LAND, AND GENERAL INHERITANCE ISSUES AND EVICTION DEFENSE TO ENSURE HOUSING STABILITY. LAST YEAR THE PROJECT SAVED OR OBTAINED $3,447,513 IN PROPERTY VALUE SAVED AND 302 EVICTION CASES TO KEEP PEOPLE HOUSED.


ECIS JJP EMPLOYS A HOLISTIC APPROACH, BY PROVIDING LEGAL REPRESENTATION TO CHILDREN WHO ARE IN MULTIPLE SYSTEMS INCLUDING THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, DISPARATE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS, THE MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM, AND FOSTER CARE SYSTEM. MOST OF OUR CLIENTS COME INTO THE JUVENILE COURT SYSTEM FOR INCIDENTS OCCURRING AT SCHOOL. THIS PROGRAM ALSO OVERSEES THE ECI CLEAN SLATE COOPERATIVE WHICH CLEARS CRIMINAL RECORDS SO INDIVIDUALS CAN OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT, HOUSING AND OTHER LIFE NEEDS.


SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE SCHOOL COLLBORATION-COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS AND COORDINATION AROUND SCHOOL DICIPLINE. THE SSSC STRONGLY OPPOSES EXCLUSIONARY SCHOOL DISCIPLINE PRACTICES AND THE CRIMINALIZATION OF STUDENT BEHAVIOR THAT DISRUPTS A STUDENTS LEARNING AND EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT. IT IS THE VISION OF THE COLLABORATIVE THAT HOUSTON-AREA PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEMS PRIORITIZE BUILDING AND SUSTAINING SAFE, SUPPORTIVE, AND EQUITABLE SCHOOL CLIMATES SO ALL STUDENTS CAN LEARN, GRADUATE, AND LIVE UP TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.
