THE EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE AWARD - THIS PROGRAM'S MISSION IS TO RECOGNIZE THE NATION'S COLLEGE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR WHO MEETS THE AWARD'S CRITERIA AND TO ENCOURAGE STUDENT-ATHLETES TO SUCCEED ON AND OFF THE FIELD WHILE HAVING THE DRIVE AND THE TENACITY TO PERSIST AND OVERCOME ADVERSITY AND INJURY IN THE PURSUIT OF REACHING THEIR GOALS. FIVE FINALISTS ARE SELECTED FROM THE NATION'S OUTSTANDING DIVISION I COLLEGE OFFENSIVE PLAYERS WHO (1) WERE BORN IN TEXAS, (2) GRADUATED FROM A TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL, OR (3) PLAYED AT A TEXAS-BASED COLLEGE. AN ANNUAL BANQUET IS HELD IN JANUARY FOLLOWING THE END OF FOOTBALL SEASON AND THE BOWL GAMES TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNER OF THE EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE AWARD. DUE TO COVID CONCERNS THIS YEAR'S EVENT WAS HELD VIRTUALLY. THIS EVENT AND AWARD HAVE BROUGHT MUCH VISIBILITY TO THE CITY OF TYLER. THIS PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES AN EARL CAMPBELL TYLER ROSE HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP TO A GRADUATING VARSITY STUDENT-ATHLETE FROM A SMITH COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL. THE SEVENTH AWARD OF $5,000 WAS PRESENTED IN APRIL 2021.
