THE JACK AND DORIS SMOTHERS AND MARY ANN BRUNI MEMORIAL FOUNDATION CONTINUED TO EXPAND AND REFINE PROJECTS TO FULFILL ITS STATED PURPOSE TO PROMOTE PEACE AND UNDERSTANDING THROUGH EXPLORATION, DOCUMENTATION, RESTORATION OF NEIGHBORHOODS AND GRASSLANDS, AND DISSEMINATION THROUGH RESTORATION, FILM, EXHIBITIONS, PUBLICATIONS, ARCHIVES AND PUBLIC DISCUSSION. THE FOUNDATION CONTINUED TO CENTER ITS EFFORTS ON DEPICTING THE CHALLENGES FACED BY ETHNICALLY AND CULTURALLY MIXED BORDERLANDS, SPECIFICALLY THOSE OF THE TEXAS-MEXICAN BORDER, NORTHERN NEW MEXICO AND IRAQI AND TURKISH KURDISTAN, AND THE CREATIVE AND BRAVE SOLUTIONS THESE PROBLEMS OFTEN BIRTH. THE SMOTHERS BRUNI FOUNDATION OPENED THE YEAR WITH THE FILMING OF THE OCTOBER 3RD 200TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH OF SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS AT RANCHOS DE TAOS, NEW MEXICO AN ALL ADOBE CHURCH MADE FAMOUS BY NUMEROUS PAINTINGS OF THE SANCTUARY BY GEORGIA OKEEFE AND REPUTED TO BE THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED CHURCH IN THE UNIT
