PUBLIC OUTREACH:IN 2021 CCHR AUSTIN CONTINUED ON A STATE LEVEL AND NATIONALLY TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE DANGERS OF PSYCHIATRIC DRUGGING, THE NEED FOR INCREASED WARNINGS AND GREATER AVENUES OF INFORMED CONSENT. IN ADDITION, CCHR AUSTIN WORKED TO BETTER INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE DANGERS OF ECT, PROBLEMS WITH ABUSE IN PSYCHIATRIC FACILITIES. THE WORK DONE BY CCHR IN EXPOSING PROBLEMS WITH PSYCHIATRIC DRUGGING, ECT, ABUSE, AND RIGHTS ABUSES INCLUDED OR CONTRIBUTED TO VARIOUS MEDIA PIECES. CCHR CONTINUED ITS PUBLIC EDUCATION ACTIVITES BY PARTICPATING IN SEVERAL PUBLIC EVENTS EDUCATING ON BASIC CIVIL AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF PERSONS UNDERGOING MENTAL HEALTH DETENTION AND PYSCHIATRIC TREATMENT. CCHR ALSO CONTINUED ITS SEMINAR SERIES IN VARIOUS PARTS OF TEXAS RELATED TO PARENTAL RIGHTS IN SCHOOL MENTAL HEALTH, GIVEN BOTH IN PERSON AND IN VIRTUAL PRESENTATIONS.CCHR ESTABLISHED A CHILDREN'S CRUSADE TO EDUCATE PARENTS AND OTHERS ON HOW TO ADDRESS PARENTAL RIGHTS IN SCHOOL MENTAL HEALTH, AND HOW TO ADVOCATE BEFORE STATE AGENCIES, INCLUDING THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO PROTECT THEIR CHILDREN FROM QUESTIONABLE OR DISTURBING MENTAL HEALTH CONTENT. CCHR CONTINUED TO SERVICE ALLIED GROUPS, KEEPING THEM ABREAST OF THE ROLL OUT OF COVID-19 IN PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALS, THE LACK OF PUBLIC RECORDS ON THIS, AND THE LACK OF IN-PERSON VISITS.
RESEARCH:DURING 2021, CCHR MONITORED THE TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19 IN PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALS INTERNATIONALLY, NATIONALLY AND ON A STATE LEVEL BY MONITORING BOTH PUBLIC INFORMATION AND MEDIA ACCOUNTS. THIS RESEARCH CONTRIBUTED TO THE CALL FOR TEXAS TO MONITOR AND PUBLICALLY REPORT CASES AND DEATHS DUE TO COVID-19 AMONG STATE HOSPITAL AND STATE SUPPORTED LIVING CENTER CLIENTS AND STAFF. IN ADDITION, THIS WORK LED TO DIALOGUE WITH THE TEXAS SUPREME COURT JUDICIAL COMMISSION ON MENTAL HEALTH TO ENSURE THAT INVOLUNTARY MENTAL HEALTH PATIENTS HAD ACCESS TO ESSENTIAL COURT HEARINGS SO THEY COULD BE RELEASED FROM STATE HOSPITALS, GIVEN THE INHERENT RISK OF TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19 IN CONGREGATE SETTINGS. DURING 2021, CCHR CONDUCTED RESEARCH RELATED TO DOZENS OF ALLEGATIONS REPORTING PSYCHIATRIC ABUSE, INCLUDING INAPPROPRIATE DRUGGING, QUESTIONABLE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS, VOLUNTARY PSYCHIATRIC PATIENTS BEING HELD AGAINST THEIR WILL AS WELL AS PATIENTS WHO ACCUSED PSYCHIATRISTS OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT.THIS LED TO SEVERAL DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS AGAINST PSYCHIATRISTS OR ALLIED HOSPITALS AS WELL AS CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS.
