GRUNDY EMS IS THE PRIMARY PROVIDER OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AND AMBULATORY SERVICES FOR GRUNDY COUNTY AND THE RURAL MOUNTAIN AREAS OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, TENNESSEE. THIS RURAL AREA IS NOT SERVICED BY AN EMERGENCY OR HOSPITAL FACILITY.

GRUNDY EMS PROVIDES TREATMENT & TRANSPORT FOR ALL EMERGENCY AND NON-EMERGENCY CALLS, REGARDLESS OF ABILITY TO PAY. DURING FY2021, GEMS ANSWERED OVER 4,600 CALLS FOR ASSISTANCE. GRUNDY EMS OPERATES IN GRUNDY COUNTY & THE MOUNTAIN AREAS OF FRANKLIN COUNTY (FRANKLIN COUNTY IS OPERATED FROM A SEPARATE FACILITY IN SEWANEE, TN). THEY ALSO HAVE CONTRACUTAL AGREEMENTS TO PROVIDE SERVICE FOR THE MOUNTAINOUS PORTION OF I-24 IN MARION COUNTY AND TO PROVIDE BACK-UP EMERGENCY AMBULATORY COVERAGE TO MUCH OF FRANKLIN AND MARION COUNTIES. GEMS PROVIDES HEALTH CARES SERVICES TO PATIENTS THAT WALK INTO THE STATION. THEY PROVIDE REMOTE RESCUE AND MEDICAL TREATMENT (4X4) AND REMOTE MEDICAL TREATMENT IN AREA STATE PARKS.
THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF GEMS SERVES AS THE MEDICAL EXAMINER/INVESTIGATOR FOR GRUNDY COUNTY. HE ALSO PROVIDES SOME MEDICAL SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS IN THE CARE OF THE GRUNDY COUNTY JAIL. GEMS PROVIDES TRANSPORT FOR INMATES TO EMERGENCY ROOMS AND PROVIDES ALS CARE FREE OF CHARGE. THEY PERFORM ROUTINE WELFARE CHECKS TO PRISONERS AND TO THE ELDERLY AT NO COST. GEMS COVERS CITY AND COUNTY EVENTS (INCLUDING GRUNDY COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAMES) FREE OF CHARGE. WITHOUT THE EMS, THE COUNTY COULD BE BURDENED WITH THE ADDITIONAL COSTS OF RUNNING AN AMBULANCE SERVICE OR CONTRACTING WITH A FOR-PROFIT PROVIDER.
