HEAD START - FUNDS USED TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL, NUTRITIONAL, AND MEDICAL SERVICES TO CHILDREN FROM LOW INCOME FAMILIES. THE OVERALL GOAL OF THE HEAD START PROGRAM IS TO BRING ABOUT A GREATER DEGREE OF SOCIAL COMPETENCE IN CHILDREN OF LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. SOCIAL COMPETENCE IS A CHILD'S EVERYDAY EFFECTIVENESS IN DEALING WITH PRESENT ENVIRONMENT AND LATER RESPONSIBILITIES IN SCHOOL AND LIFE. WE STRIVE TO ADDRESS OUR CHILDREN'S NEEDS IN ALL AREAS OF DEVELOPMENT - PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND COGNITIVE - AND TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE TO ALL THOSE WHO AFFECT THE CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT. WE HONOR ISSUES OF CULTURAL RELEVANCE, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION, THROUGH OUR VALIDATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL STRENGHTS OF THE ENROLLED CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.AS OF 12/31/21, WE PROVIDED SERVICES TO 556 LOW INCOME CHILDREN AT 7 FACILITIES.
CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM - PROVIDES MEALS FOR QUALIFIED LOW INCOME CHILDREN. OPTIMAL NUTRITION ENHANCES A YOUNG CHILD'S ABILITY TO LEARN AND ENRICHES HIS QUALITY OF LIFE. NORTHWEST ARKANSAS HEAD START COMPLIES WITH THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE (USDA) NUTRITIONAL GUIDELINES WHEN PLANNING MENUS AND IMPLEMENTING NUTRITION EDUCATION.
