THE PUBLIC EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP OF WINTER HAVEN, INC. (PEP) PARTNERED WITH THE POLK COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD, CITY OF WINTER HAVEN, LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER, GREATER WINTER HAVEN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, POLK EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND MANY LOCAL BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO RENOVATE A 5,300 SQUARE FOOT BUILDING FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING TUTORING AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS IN A VERY LOW INCOME NEIGHBORHOOD. THIS BUILDING OPENED IN MARCH, 2014 AND IS LOCATED AT 201 AVE R, NE IN WINTER HAVEN, FLORIDA. THE CITY OF WINTER HAVEN OWNS THE PROPERTY AND LEASES IT TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP OF WINTER HAVEN, INC. FOR $1 PER YEAR. PEP PROVIDES ALL OF THE EXPENSES OF THE BUILDING, INCLUDING INSURANCE AND PROGRAMMING COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH CURRICULUM, ENRICHMENT AND INCENTIVES. PEP FOCUSES ON A COMMUNITY OUTREACH TO INVOLVE MORE PEOPLE AND BUSINESSES IN OUR SCHOOLS.
PEP OFFERS SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP AND OTHER SUMMER PROGRAMS TO KEEP THE STUDENTS ENGAGED IN LEARNING ALL YEAR. ALL PROGRAMS ARE RUN OUT THE PEP EDUCATION CENTER WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF OTHER LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER TO HELP ADMINISTER THE PROGRAMS.
PEP PROVIDES FOR SCHOOL, TEACHER AND STUDENT NEEDS ABOVE WHAT THE SCHOOLS ARE CAPABLE OF PROVIDING, SUCH AS: A VAN FOR THE AWARD WINNING WHHS ROBOTICS TEAM, PEP EDUCATION CENTER READING TUTORING PROGRAM THAT OFFERS 1:1 INSTRUCTION FOR THE STUDENTS, BOOK PURCHASES TO REFILL / UPDATE SCHOOL LIBRARIES AND A HEALTHY EATING PROGRAM.
