CAL-IPCS PROTECTS CALIFORNIAS ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMY FROM INVASIVE PLANTS. WE RUN SCIENCE-BASED PROGRAMS TO TRAIN LAND MANAGERS, COORDINATE REGIONAL LAND MANAGEMENT PROJECTS, AND ADVOCATE FOR SOUND LAND MANAGEMENT POLICY. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O.)

CONSERVATION SCIENCE: CAL-IPC WORKS WITH REGIONAL PARTNERS ACROSS THE STATE TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT INVASIVE PLANT MANAGEMENT PROJECTS THAT PROTECT BIODIVERSITY AND REDUCE WILDFIRE RISK. WE LEAD OR SUPPORT PROJECTS ON THE NORTH COAST, IN THE SIERRA NEVADA, AROUND THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, ACROSS THE CENTRAL VALLEY, ON THE SOUTH COAST AND IN THE DESERT. PROJECTS FOCUS ON ADDRESSING NEW INVASIVE PLANT INFESTATIONS BEFORE THEY CAN SPREAD. WE MAINTAIN THE INVENTORY OF INVASIVE PLANTS IN CALIFORNIA, AND ASSESS WHICH INVASIVE PLANTS ARE MOST LIKELY TO BECOME PROBLEMS IN CALIFORNIA IN THE FUTURE. WE MAINTAIN ONLINE TOOLS FOR LAND MANAGERS, SUCH AS CALWEEDMAPPER, WHICH HELPS SET LANDSCAPE-LEVEL MANAGEMENT STRATEGY, AND WEEDCUT, WHICH HELPS SELECT THE BEST APPROACHES FOR A GIVEN WEED MANAGEMENT SITUATION.


EDUCATION: CAL-IPCS ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM BRINGS 350+ LAND MANAGERS, RESEARCHERS, CONSERVATION CORPS MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEER STEWARDS TOGETHER FOR FOUR DAYS OF PRESENTATIONS, DISCUSSION GROUPS, TRAININGS AND FIELD TRIPS. OUR 2021 SYMPOSIUM WAS HELD ONLINE, WITH OVER 600 ATTENDEES. IN ADDITION, WE PROVIDED JOB TRAINING FOR CONSERVATION CORPS MEMBERS AROUND THE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA.


POLICY: CAL-IPC WORKS IN SACRAMENTO TO STRENGTHEN STATE INVASIVE PLANT PROGRAMS AND FUNDING FOR INVASIVE PLANT MANAGEMENT, ESPECIALLY THE COLLABORATIVE WORK DONE BY COUNTY WEED MANAGEMENT AREAS (WMAS). WE SUPPORT THE EFFORTS OF THE STATES INTERAGENCY INVASIVE SPECIES COUNCIL AND ITS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL, CAL-IPC IS A LEADER WITH THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INVASIVE PLANT COUNCILS AND THE NORTH AMERICAN INVASIVE SPECIES NETWORK. WE ARE CURRENTLY WORKING WITH PARTNERS NATIONWIDE TO COORDINATE INVASIVE PLANT ASSESSMENT AND LISTING ACROSS STATES. AS PART OF THIS EFFORT, WE ARE TRAINING COLLEAGUES IN ARIZONA, OREGON, AND WASHINGTON ON SCREENING PLANTS TO PROACTIVELY DETERMINE THEIR RISK OF BECOMING INVASIVE IN THE FUTURE.
