Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA P.E.T. IMAGING CENTER (NCPIC) IS A NON-PROFIT, PUBLIC BENEFIT CORPORATION FORMED IN 1991 BY SUTTER HEALTH AND DIGNITY HEALTH.NCPIC PERFORMS POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY (PET) PROCEDURES. THESE MEDICAL IMAGING EVALUATIONS REQUIRE SMALL AMOUNTS OF CYCLOTRON-PRODUCED RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL TO STUDY METABOLIC ACTIVITY. THE ASSESSMENT OF METABOLIC CHANGE BY PET PROVIDES EARLY DETECTION OF DISEASE. IN CONTRAST, OTHER IMAGING METHODS ASSESS ANATOMICAL OR FUNCTIONAL CHANGE THAT RESULTS FROM MORE ADVANCED ABNORMALITIES. PET IS PRIMARILY USED IN THE DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF BRAIN AND HEART ABNORMALITIES AND CANCER. IN 2023, NCPIC PERFORMED 1,944 IMAGING PROCEDURES. SOME INSURERS DO NOT REIMBURSE PET PROCEDURES. HOWEVER, THE CLINICAL BENEFIT OF THIS SERVICE IS PROVIDED REGARDLESS OF REIMBURSEMENT. THE CURRENT LEVEL OF STRICTLY CHARITY PROCEDURES PROVIDED IS APPROXIMATELY 2.5% OF PROCEDURE VOLUME.
