TEACHER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY:WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE SUN FOUNDATION, THE CARLSTON FAMILY FOUNDATION OFFERS THE TEACHER LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (TLA) EACH ACADEMIC YEAR. EARLY CAREER TEACHERS, IN THEIR FIRST THROUGH SIXTH YEAR OF TEACHING, ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN A NUMBER OF ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO SUPPORT AND ASSIST THEM THROUGH THE CHALLENGES OF THEIR NEW CAREER, WHILE ENCOURAGING THEM TO STAY IN THE PROFESSION AS MORE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR TEACHING. EACH NOVICE TEACHER IS CAREFULLY MATCHED, BY BOTH CONTENT AREA AND SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT, WITH ONE OF THE EXPERIENCED AWARD-WINNING CARLSTON FAMILY FELLOW TEACHERS AS A ONE-ON-ONE MENTOR. THESE PAIRS MEET EVERY MONTH TO DISCUSS PEDAGOGY, CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT, FAMILY ENGAGEMENT, AND OTHER ISSUES FOR NEW TEACHERS. THEY ALSO WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE A SET OF GOALS AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE NEW TEACHER.
