HAS FOCUSED PRIMARILY ON BRINGING THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THE MODEL UNITED NATIONS ("MUN") PROGRAM PROVIDES; TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND OTHER STUDENTS IN LOW INCOME COMMUNITIES IN PUERTO RICO. MUN IS AN AUTHENTIC SIMULATION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY, UN SECURITY COUNCIL, OR OTHER MULTILATERAL BODIES, WHICH INTRODUCES STUDENTS TO THE WORLD OF DIPLOMACY, NEGOTIATION, AND DECISION MAKING. SIMULTANEOUSLY, SINCE STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SERVE 40 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE BEFORE GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL, UNA-USA PR CHAPTER INC. HAS ALSO PROMOTED THE DEVELOPMENT OF UN STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS, A PLATFORM FROM WHICH STUDENTS CAN JOIN INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS COORDINATED BY THE UN FOUNDATION AND LOCAL INITIATIVES COORDINATED BY NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS THE RICKY MARTIN FOUNDATION AND SCUBA DOGS SOCIETY; THUS FULFILLING THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE OF DEVELOPING STUDENTS WHO ARE EQUIPPED WITH THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO THINK GLOBALLY AND ACT LOCALLY. COORDINATES 2 MUN WORKSHOPS AND 2 MODEL UN CONFERENCES (6 CONTACT HOURS EACH), IN ORDER TO EXPOSE STUDENTS AND MAKE THEM PRACTICE THE PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM, NAMELY RESEARCH, WRITING, PUBLIC SPEAKING, NEGOTIATION, CONSENSUS BUILDING, RULES OF PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE AND RESOLUTION WRITING. DURING EACH WORKSHOP WE HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDG'S), HOW THEY RELATE TO THEIR VOLUNTEER WORK THROUGH THE UN STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS; AND THE WORK UNA-USA PR IS DOING TO TEACH, MEASURE AND INTEGRATE THE SDG'S IN PUERTO RICO IN COLLABORATION WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM ACADEMIA, NGO'S, PRIVATE INDUSTRY AND THE GOVERNMENT. DUE TO COVID-19, DURING THE TAXABLE YEAR 2020, UNA-USA PR CELEBRATED 2 WORKSHOPS AND 4 MODEL UN CONFERENCES VIA VIDEO CONFERENCING.
