COOPERATIVE MARKETING INITIATIVE - THE CMI (COOPERTIVE MARKETING INITIATIVE) WAS STARTED IN 2003 BY 10 HOTELS AND 5 ALLIED MEMBERS. TODAY PARTICIPANTS INCLUDE 20 SMALL HOTELS, ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACTIONS, RETAIL SHOPS AND DESTINATION MANAGEMENT COMPANIES. OUR VISION: TO SECURE A GLOGAL MARKETING PRESENCE AND AWARENESS THAT WILL GENERATE, GROW AND SUSTAIN DEMAND FOR OUR DESTINATION. OUR MISSION: TO MAINTAIN THE EQUITABLE SELF GENERATED FUND THAT ENABLES THE HTA TO TAKE THE LEADERSHIP ROLE IN PLANNING UNIFIED AND CONSISTENT MARKETING EFFORTS.
TOMMY STARFISH - TOMMY STARFISH IS THE MASCOT OF THE USVI HTA. TOMMY ARRIVED "ON ISLAND" ON THE SEAPLANE IN NOVEMBER OF 2002 AND AS THE PUBLIC FACE OF THE HTA FILLS MANY DIFFERENT DUTIES FOR THE HTA. THE ANNUAL TOMMY STAR AWARDS RECOGNIZE HOSPITALITY EMPLOYEES FOR EXCELLENCE AND DEDICATION. THIS IS A MAJOR BLACK TIE EVENT AND THAT GIVES THE HTA AND IT'S MEMBERS A CHANCE TO HIGHLIGHT AND SHOWCASE THE WORK OF THEIR STAFFS THROUGHOUT THE TOURISM INDUSTRY. THERE IS ALSO THE TOMMY GOES TO SCHOOL NEWSLETTER WHICH IS DISTRIBUTED IN SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE TERRITORY WITH THE GOAL OF DISSEMINATING RELEVANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE TOURISM INDUSTRY TO THE CHILDREN OF THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS AND INTEREST THEM IN TOURISM CAREERS. TOMMY STARFISH ALSO APPEARS ON COLOR-CODED ROAD SIGNS THAT HELP TOURISTS FIND THEIR WAY FROM THE AIRPORT TO MAJOR POINTS OF INTEREST AROUND THE ISLAND AND BACK.
DESTINATION SYMPOSIUM - DESTINATION SYMPOSIUM IS THE PREMIER MARKETING EVENT OF THE US VIRGIN ISLANDS AND FOR OVER 20 YEARS IT HAS BEEN TOUTED THE BEST IN THE CARIBBEAN - ONE DAY OF BUSINESS APPOINTMENTS, WHERE BUYERS AND SUPPLIERS ARE MATCHED FOR ONE ON ONE APPOINTMENTS. THE BUSINESS APPOINTMENTS SET THE TONE OF VACATION PACKAGING OVER THE NEXT YEAR. IT OFFERS ONE DAY INDUSTRY PRESENTATIONS BY THE DOT, ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACTIONS AND CMI. THE BUYERS ALSO HAVE TIME FOR SITE INSPECTIONS SO WE ARE SURE THEY EXPERIENCE EVERYTHING OUR MEMBERS HAVE TO OFFER.
