THE HILL FOUNDATION FOR FAMILIES LIVING WITH DISABILITIES PROVIDES INFORMATION AND SUPPORT TO FAMILIES WHO ARE SUDDENLY FACED WITH THE PROSPECT OF LIFELONG PARALYSIS CAUSED BY A SPINAL CORD INJURY. THE FOUNDATION'S ONLINE VIDEO LIBRARY (FACINGDISABILITY.COM) CONTAINS MORE THAN 1,000 FOUNDATION-PRODUCED INTERVIEWS WITH MEDICAL EXPERTS ON MAJOR HEALTH CARE TOPICS. ANOTHER 2,000 FOUNDATION-PRODUCED VIDEOS CONTAIN INTERVIEWS WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE LIVING WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY ABOUT HOW THEY COPE.
"YOU ARE NOT ALONE" FACING SPINAL CORD INJURY IS A PRIVATE FACEBOOK GROUP, CREATED BY THE FOUNDATION, IN WHICH MEMBERSHIP IS LIMITED TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY AND MEMBERS OF THEIR FAMILIES. THE GROUP NOW HAS 5,000 MEMBERS WHO CONNECT ON A REGULAR BASIS. OVER TWO-THIRDS OF THE MEMBERS ENGAGE WITH THE GROUP AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK. WE REGULARLY POLL THE GROUP, ASKING MEMBERS TO IDENTIFY HEALTH PROBLEMS AND SOCIAL ISSUES THAT COMPLICATE LIVING WITH SPINAL CORD INJURY; WE THEN OFFER RESOURCES THAT OFFER HELP AND SOLUTIONS.
THE HILL FOUNDATION IS REGULARLY INVITED TO PRESENT RESEARCH ABOUT ITS WORK AND ACTIVITIES AT PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL CONFERENCES, INCLUDING THE AMERICAN SPINAL INJURY ASSOCIATION, THE ACADEMY OF SPINAL CORD INJURY PROFESSIONALS, THE AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION AND THE PARALYZED VETERANS OF AMERICA.
"VOICES OF EXPERIENCE" IS A NEW 10-PART VIDEO SERIES FOR PEOPLE WITH NEW SPINAL CORD INJURIES THAT FEATURES PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN LIVING WITH SPINAL CORD INJURIES FOR YEARS. IT TALKS CANDIDLY ABOUT THE QUESTIONS, ISSUES AND CONCERNS THAT ARE MOST IMPORTANT IN THE EARLY DAYS AFTER A SPINAL CORD INJURY. DESIGNED FOR IN-HOSPITAL TV NETWORKS AND REHAB CENTERS, IT IS A JOINT PROJECT WITH THE SHIRLEY RYAN ABILITYLAB AND WAS FUNDED IN PART BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DISABILITY, INDEPENDENT LIVING AND REHABILITATION RESEARCH (NIDILRR). IT IS CURRENTLY IN USE BY MORE THAN 40 MAJOR HOSPITALS AND REHABILITATION CENTERS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. IT IS ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE ON FACINGDISABILITY.COM.
