CAROL DEJOY MOMS AND TOTS FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 2004. FAMILY LITERACY TEACHES MOTHERS AND THEIR PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN ENGLISH TO HELP PREPARE THE CHILDREN TO START SCHOOL READY TO LEARN AND TO DEVELOP A LOVE OF READING IN EACH FAMILY. MOTHERS LEARN ENGLISH WHILE THEIR CHILDREN LEARN ENGLISH THROUGH PLAY. MOTHERS LEARN TO THE IMPORTANCE OF READING TO THEIR YOUNG CHILDREN AND BOOKS ARE SENT HOME WITH EACH FAMILY TO HELP BUILD A LIBRARY OF READING MATERIALS FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY TO ENJOY.
WORKSITE LITERACY HAS BEEN OPERATING SINCE THE LATE 1990'S. THIS PROGRAM UTILIZES VOLUNTEERS, WHO LIVE AT AREA GOLF AND GATED COMMUNITIES, TO TEACH ENGLISH TO THE EMPLOYEES OF THE COMMUNITIES. EMPLOYEES IMPROVE THEIR ENGLISH SKILLS AND CAN GET PROMOTIONS, BETTER JOBS OR JUST AN INCREASED ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR SUPERVISORS AND RESIDENTS THAT THEY SERVE. LANDSCAPING, GOLF MAINTENANCE, KITCHEN, DINING AND HOUSEKEEPING STAFF PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAMS.
ADULT LITERACY, SINCE OUR INCEPTION IN 1989, TEACHES ENGLISH TO ADULTS, 18 YEARS OLD AND OVER. STUDENTS LEARN TO SPEAK, READ AND WRITE ENGLISH AND ALSO TAKE OTHER LITERACY CLASSES INCLUDING GRAMMAR, WRITING AND CONVERSATION.
WE ALSO TEACH US CITIZENSHIP PREPARATION AND GED PREP.
