INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITY (ICF):SON VALLEY OPERATES THE ONLY PRIVATE, CHRISTIAN, INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITY INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (ICFIDD) IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI. THERE WE HAVE TWO GROUP HOMES LOCATED ON 80 ACRES OF DONATED LAND IN MADISON COUNTY, JUST OUTSIDE OF CANTON. IN 2022, THE TWO HOMES HAD 20 RESIDENTS. OUR RESIDENTS HELP WITH DUTIES AROUND THE HOUSE SUCH AS MAKING THEIR BEDS; WASHING, DRYING AND FOLDING CLOTHES; HELPING COOK MEALS; SETTING THE TABLE; AND CLEANING UP AFTER MEALS. THEY ALSO HAVE A LARGE TELEVISION IN THE LIVING ROOM WHERE THEY CAN HANG OUT AND WATCH THEIR FAVORITE PROGRAMS. THE PAVILION SERVES AS A PLACE FOR WATERMELON SEED SPITTING CONTESTS, ARTS AND CRAFTS CENTER, SPECIAL COOKOUTS, AND EVEN AS A TRIKE RIDING FACILITY. THE RESIDENTS ESPECIALLY ENJOY SHOOTING HOOPS WHEN THE WEATHER PERMITS!
SUPERVISED LIVING:SON VALLEY CURRENTLY OPERATES ONE HOME AND SEVERAL APARTMENTS FOR SUPERVISED LIVING RESIDENTS. OUR DIRECT CARE STAFF ARE WITH THE RESIDENTS 24/7 TO ENSURE THEIR SAFETY AND WELL BEING. THE RESIDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLETING HOUSEHOLD CHORES LIKE COOKING, CLEANING, AND DOING LAUNDRY. SON VALLEY ALSO OFFERS SUPPORTED LIVING FOR ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. THESE RESIDENTS LIVE IN AN APARTMENT AND ARE, FOR THE MOST PART, INDEPENDENT. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR DAY-TO-DAY LIVING NEEDS SUCH AS COOKING, CLEANING, AND PERSONAL NEEDS. WE HAVE STAFF AVAILABLE TO ASSIST THEM WHEN NEEDED. OUR STAFF IS ALSO AVAILABLE TO THEM FOR THEIR TRANSPORTATION NEEDS. IN 2022, THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 40 PARTICIPANTS IN THESE SERVICES.
COMMUNITY CENTER:ONE OF OUR SON VALLEY COMMUNITY CENTERS IS LOCATED IN RIDGELAND, MS. THE RESIDENTS FROM OUR CANTON INTERMEDIATE CARE FACILITY, OUR COMMUNITY LIVING RESIDENTS, ALONG WITH PATRONS FROM AROUND THE JACKSON METRO AREA COME TO THE COMMUNITY CENTER DAILY. OUR FACILITY IS OPEN MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AND IS CLOSED ON WEEKENDS. IN 2022, THE COMMUNITY CENTER PROVIDED SERVICES TO APPROXIMATELY 75 INDIVIDUALS. OUR FIRST ACTIVITY OF THE MORNING IS A TIME OF BIBLE READING, PRAYER, AND SINGING. OUR RESIDENTS AND PATRONS ARE VERY SINCERE ABOUT WORSHIP AND PRAYING FOR EACH OTHER AS WELL AS OTHERS. IF YOU HAVE A NEED AND A RESIDENT OR PATRON KNOWS ABOUT IT, WE CAN ASSURE YOU THAT YOUR NEED IS MENTIONED AS A PRAYER REQUEST. WE HAVE AN ONGOING EDUCATION PORTFOLIO FOR EACH RESIDENT AND PATRON. OUR RESIDENTS AND PATRONS ARE ACTIVELY TAUGHT VARIOUS VOCATIONAL SKILLS TO BETTER PREPARE THEM FOR AN ACTUAL COMMUNITY JOB. THESE SKILLS ARE LEARNED THROUGH TEACHING AND PRACTICE. THEY INCLUDE SORTING, STOCKING, JANITORIAL, FOLDING, AND IDENTIFYINGTO NAME A FEW. WE WORK DILIGENTLY TO HELP OUR RESIDENTS AND PATRONS FIND EMPLOYMENT IN THE COMMUNITY. IN 2022 WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 10 RESIDENTS AND PATRONS WHO ARE EMPLOYED BY BUSINESSES IN OUR COMMUNITY. SOME OF THOSE BUSINESSES ARE CHICK FIL A, CHICKEN SALAD CHICK, AND MCALISTER'S DELI. OUR RESIDENTS AND PATRONS ARE OFFERED THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO AND EXPERIENCE MANY DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS WITH SON VALLEY. OUTINGS AND ACTIVITIES INCLUDE SHOPPING TRIPS TO THE GROCERY STORE OR MALL, TOURS OF HALL OF FAME MUSEUM, AND TRIPS TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
