ALABAMA ARISE IS A STATEWIDE, MEMBER-LED ORGANIZATION ADVANCING PUBLIC POLICIES TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF ALABAMIANS WHO ARE MARGINALIZED BY POVERTY. OUR MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES FAITH-BASED, COMMUNITY, NONPROFIT AND CIVIC GROUPS, GRASSROOTS LEADERS AND INDIVUDALS FROM ACROSS ALABAMA.

POLICY ANALYSIS: THE POLICY TEAM ANALYZED PROPOSED AND CURRENT LAWS TO ASSESS THEIR EFFECTS ON LOW-INCOME ALABAMIANS. IN FY2021, ARISE PRODUCED 63 BLOG POSTS, FACT SHEETS, NEWSLETTERS AND LEGISLATIVE UPDATES, AND 1 FULL LENGTH REPORT.


ORGANIZING: ARISE STRENGTHENS OUR COALITION THROUGH EDUCATING OUR MEMBERS AND DEEPENING COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. ARISE HOSTS EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS, LISTENING SESSIONS AND TRAININGS ACROSS THE STATE. IN FY2021, ARISE STAFF PRESENTED AT 86 MOSTLY VIRTUAL EVENTS REACHING OVER 4,686 PARTICIPANTS.


ADVOCACY: ARISE ENGAGES A LIST OF OVER 13,000 INDIVIDUALS IN ADVOCACY ALERTS. IN FY2021, WE SENT 28 TARGETED ACTION ALERTS GENERATING OVER 1,000 INDIVIDUAL LEGISLATIVE CONTACTS, STOPPED LEGISLATION THAT WOULD UNDERMINE THE SOCIAL SAFETY NET, AND ADVANCED THE CONVERSATION ABOUT MEDICAID EXPANSION AND UNTAXING GROCERIES. ARISE REACHES A STATEWIDE AUDIENCE AS A TRUSTED SOURCE OF INFORMATION TO PROMOTE OUR POLICY PRIORITIES. IN FY2021, ARISE STAFF PRODUCED 25 MEIDA RELEASES AND WERE CITED 1,754 TIMES IN LOCAL, REGIONAL AND NATIONAL MEDIA STORIES.
