Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
NCRC PROVIDES LOW-INCOME MIDDLE TENNESSEANS WITH FREE AND SLIDING-SCALE MEDIATION SERVICES. MEDIATION IS A UNIQUELY EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE PROCESS IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM, BECAUSE IT PRIORITIZES THE VOICES AND DECISION- MAKING POWER OF THE PARTICIPANTS, AND IT PRESERVES CONFIDENTIALITY. AS THE ONLY NONPROFIT MEDIATION CENTER SERVING DAVIDSON COUNTY AND MOST OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE, NCRC RELIES PRIMARILY ON PARTNERSHIPS WITH COURTS, DISTRICT ATTORNEYS, AND OTHER NONPROFIT AGENCIES TO IDENTIFY PEOPLE IN NEED OF SERVICES. THESE REFERRAL PARTNERS UNDERSTAND THAT OUR CLIENTS TEND TO FARE POORLY IN COURT, BUT THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO EXERCISE AGENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH MEDIATION. COURTS ALSO APPRECIATE THAT WE REMOVE CASES FROM OVERCROWDED DOCKETS AND INSTEAD PROVIDE CONFIDENTIAL SERVICES THAT ALLOW CLIENTS TO SETTLE ISSUES WITHOUT SEEING A JUDGE. CASE TYPES INCLUDING LANDLORD-TENANT, DEBTOR-CREDITOR, WORKPLACE, NEIGHBOR, CUSTODY/VISITATION, YOUTH ALTERCATION, AND DOMESTIC DISPUTES. NCRC'S SERVICES ARE DELIVERED EITHER IN-PERSON OR VIA REMOTE CONFERENCING, WHICH ENSURES THAT NO ONE IS EXCLUDED BECAUSE OF TECHNOLOGICAL, PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, OR GEOGRAPHIC BARRIERS. WE ALSO PROVIDE INTERPRETERS FOR LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH, INCLUDING ASL. OTHER SERVICES INCLUDE THE PROVISION OF COURT-APPROVED MEDIATOR TRAINING AND MENTORING; REGULAR CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR ATTORNEYS AND MEDIATORS; CONFLICT MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS; AND MEDIATION SERVICES FOR NONPROFIT, EDUCATIONAL, AND GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS.
