THOMPSON ONCOLOGY GROUP ("TOG") PROVIDES ONCOLOGY SERVICES TO CANCER PATIENTS THROUGHOUT SEVEN COUNTIES IN EAST TENNESSEE. PHYSICIANS EMPLOY A MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM APPROACH TO CANCER CARE. THE GOAL IS TO GIVE EACH PATIENT THE BEST POSSIBILITY FOR SUCCESS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CANCER. THE MEDICAL ONCOLOGISTS UTILIZE THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY AND CHEMOTHERAPY DRUGS AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE CHEMOTHERAPY TREATMENTS. TOG PROVIDED 47,133 PATIENT VISITS IN 2021. TOG PHYSICIANS WORK CLOSELY WITH MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AT THOMPSON CANCER SURVIVAL CENTER WITH ONGOING RESEARCH FOR MORE EFFECTIVE WAYS TO PREVENT, TREAT, AND CURE CANCER. THE PHYSICIANS AND STAFF ARE COMMITTED TO THE COMMUNITY AND DETERMINED TO DELIVER CANCER CARE WITH INTEGRITY AND COMPASSION AND TO KEEP THE PATIENT AT THE CENTER OF EVERYTHING THEY DO. TOG PHYSICIANS AND CLINICIANS ALSO ASSIST IN THE EDUCATION OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC BY PROMOTING AND SUPPORTING COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS RELATING TO THE TREATMENT AND PREVENTION OF CANCER.TOG PHYSICIANS INCLUDE GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGISTS. THESE ARE OBSTETRICIAN/GYNECOLOGISTS WHO SPECIALIZE IN THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CANCERS OF THE FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM. GYNECOLOGIC CANCERS ARE COMPLEX AND TREATMENT OFTEN INVOLVES MULTIPLE MODALITIES SUCH AS SURGERY, CHEMOTHERAPY, AND RADIATION. GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGISTS ARE SPECIALLY TRAINED TO DIAGNOSE AND TREAT THESE TYPES OF CANCERS, AS WELL AS PREMALIGNANT CONDITIONS THAT LEAD TO GYNECOLOGIC CANCER. THE PHYSICIANS ARE ALSO TRAINED IN PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE, MULTIDISCIPLINARY CARE. TOG PROVIDED THESE SERVICES TO 573 NEW PATIENTS IN 2021 AND PERFORMED 644 SURGICAL PROCEDURES.PALLIATIVE CARE IS A MEDICAL SPECIALTY OF TOG FOCUSING ON MANAGEMENT OF SYMPTOMS IN PATIENTS WITH ACUTE, CHRONIC, OR LIFE THREATENING ILLNESS, REGARDLESS OF THE DIAGNOSIS. THESE SYMPTOMS MIGHT INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, PAIN, NAUSEA, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, FLUID RETENTION, ETC. PALLIATIVE CARE STRIVES TO HELP PATIENTS BETTER UNDERSTAND TREATMENT OPTIONS AND CUSTOMIZE TREATMENTS TO MEET INDIVIDUAL NEEDS. THE GOAL IS TO PROMOTE THE HIGHEST QUALITY OF LIFE FOR PATIENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. PALLIATIVE CARE CAN BE DELIVERED ANY TIME DURING A PATIENT'S ILLNESS, WHILE HE OR SHE IS BEING TREATED IN A HOSPITAL, AND CAN BE PROVIDED IN CONJUNCTION WITH ALL OTHER MEDICAL TREATMENTS. THE PALLIATIVE CARE TEAM PROVIDED 3,729 VISITS IN 2021 BEFORE TRANSITIONING TO COVENANT HOMECARE OCTOBER 1, 2021.COVENANT HEALTHTOG IS A MEMBER OF COVENANT HEALTH. COVENANT HEALTH IS A COMPREHENSIVE, COMMUNITY-OWNED HEALTH SYSTEM DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE IT SERVES. ESTABLISHED IN 1996 BY THE CONSOLIDATION OF FORT SANDERS HEALTH SYSTEM, KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE, AND MMC HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN OAK RIDGE, COVENANT HEALTH IS GOVERNED BY A VOLUNTARY BOARD OF DIRECTORS COMPRISED OF COMMUNITY LEADERS AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.
