HIGHLNADER SERVES AS A CATALYST FOR GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING AND MOVEMENT BUILDING IN APPALACHIA AND THE SOUTH. WE WORK WITH PEOPLE FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE, EQUALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY, SUPPORTING THEIR EFFORTS TO TAKE COLLECTIVE ACTION TO SHAPE THEIR OWN DESTINY.

INCUBATING RAD WORK, SOUTHERN POWER FUND, AND OTHER PROGRAM SUPPORT
COMMUNITY SUPPORTCOMMUNITY SUPPORT INCLUDES OUR BOOKSTORE AND LIBRARY, ANNUAL EVENTS (HOMECOMING), AND CALLS TO ACTION THAT SUPPORT COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN THE MOVEMENT.
WORKSHOP CENTERTHE WORKSHOP CENTER IS AT THE HEART OF HIGHLANDERS WORK, SINCE IT ISHERE THAT PEOPLE GATHER FROM AROUND THE REGION, THE NATION, AND THE WORLD TO DISCUSS AND FIND COLLECTIVE SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS FACING THEIR COMMUNITIES. THE CENTER CONTAINS A LARGE OCTAGONAL MEETING ROOM IN WHICH PARTICIPANTS SIT IN A CIRCLE OF ROCKING CHAIRS (REINFORCING OUR VISION OF EQUALITY AND SHARED LEARNING), AS WELL AS A KITCHEN, DINING ROOM, WOMENS, MENS AND GENDER-NEUTRAL RESTROOMS AND SHOWERS, A CHILDCARE FACILITY, ADA COMPLIANT LODGING, HIKING TRAILS AND THE MOST SPECTACULAR VIEW OF THE GREAT SMOKEY MOUNTAINS.
