HOUSE NEW YORK (HNY) PROVIDES EDUCATION, RESEARCH, AND ADVOCACY TARGETED AT IMPROVING THE LIVES OF LOW-INCOME AFFORDABLE HOUSING TENANTS. MOST RECENT EFFORTS HAVE BEEN FOCUSED ON DIGITAL EQUITY PROGRAMS THAT BRING LOW-COST FIBER, CABLE, WIFI AND CELLULAR SERVICE TO LOW-INCOME POPULATIONS IN NEW YORK STATE. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SEVERAL GRANT FUNDERS, HNY LAUNCHED THE COMMUNITY CLASSROOMS PROGRAM PROVIDING VIRTUAL CLASSROOM SPACE TO LOW-INCOME STUDENTS WHO WERE SCHOOLING AT HOME DURING THE PANDEMIC. SIMULTANEOUSLY, IN NEW YORK CITY, THE ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHED A PREQUALIFIED LIST OF BROADBAND PROVIDERS WILLING TO RETROFIT AFFORDABLE HOUSING WITH NO-COST HIGH-SPEED BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE TO BUILDING OWNERS AND LOW-COST MONTHLY BROADBAND SERVICE TO TENANTS. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)AND WITH GENEROUS FUNDING FROM SCHMIDT FUTURES AND THE FORD FOUNDATION, HNY PUBLISHED AHBI, THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING BROADBAND INITIATIVE REPORT - A REPORT OUTLINING THE PATHWAY TO LEVERAGING FUNDS AND PROGRAMMING TO COMPLETE THE RETROFITTING OF ALL OF NEW YORK'S AFFORDABLE HOUSING STOCK WITH BROADBAND SERVICE.
