IN ORDER FOR FLORIDA'S PROSTART INSTRUCTORS TO PROPERLY TEACH FOOD SAFETY AND SANITATION, THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION OF THE FLORIDA RESTAURANT AND LODGING ASSOCIATION, INC. (EFFRLA) PROVIDED SERVSAFE CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL FOOD MANAGER TRAINING AT NO COST TO THE INSTRUCTOR. THIS TRAINING PROVIDED THE MOST UP TO DATE INFORMATION ON THE NATIONAL FOOD CODE. THE EFFRLA ALSO PROVIDED SERVSAFE CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL FOOD MANAGER TRAINING AND SAFESTAFF EMPLOYEE FOODHANDLER TRAINING FOR PROSTART STUDENTS. THIS PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE TRAINING THEY NEED TO GET A JOB IN THE FOOD SERVICE INDUSTRY.
TO ENSURE THE PROSTART SCHOOL-TO-CAREER PROGRAM AND THE LODGING MANAGEMENT PROGRAM (LMP) STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO CONTINUE THEIR HOSPITALITY EDUCATION, THE EFFRLA PROVIDED POST-SECONDARY SCHOLARSHIPS. THE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS WERE DISTRIBUTED IN THE FALL AND THE SPRING. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP STUDENTS PROVIDED PROOF OF ENROLLMENT IN A POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTION NO LATER THAN JUNE OF 2021.
THE ANNUAL PROSTART TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTE IS A WEEK LONG EVENTWHICH ALL PROSTART INSTRUCTORS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND. THE 2021 TRAINING WAS HELD AT KEISER UNIVERSITY'S CAMPUS. THE PARTICIPANTS LEARNED THE MOST UP-TO-DATE, INNOVATIVE WAYS TO TEACH STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN FOODSERVICE. TEACHERS PARTICIPATED IN "HANDS-ON" LABS IN THE KITCHEN/CLASSROOM UNDER THE TUTELAGE OF CHEF-INSTRUCTORS. NOT ONLY DID TEACHERS RECEIVE TRAINING IN KITCHEN ACTIVITES, THE CHEF-INSTRUCTORS ALSO CONDUCTED SPECIFIC CLASSES RELEVANT TO TOPICS COVERED IN THE PROSTART CURRICULUM. THE ANNUAL PROSTART TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTE WAS DESIGNED TO EQUIP PROSTART TEACHERS WITH THE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE THEY NEED TO ADEQUATELY TEACH THE PROGRAM TO THEIR STUDENTS. THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 36 TEACHER ATTENDEES.
