IN 2021 THE A. L. LEWIS HISTORICAL SOCIETY CONTINUED ITS ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS OF THE AMERICAN BEACH MUSEUM ALTHOUGH THE MUSEUM REMAINED CLOSED BECAUSE OF COVID PRECAUTIONS. DURING THE YEAR THE ALLHS BOARD CHANGED THE NAME OF THE MUSEUM TO THE A. L. LEWIS MUSEUM AT AMERICAN BEACH TO REFLECT THE NAME OF AMERICAN BEACH'S FOUNDER. THE ALLHS ENGAGED A MUSEUM COLLECTIONS PROFESSIONAL TO RESEARCH, COLLECT AND DIGITIZE DOCUMENTS TO ENHANCE THE MUSEUM'S COLLECTIONS AND ARCHIVES. THE ALLHS AND ITS VOLUNTEER DIRECTOR PLANNED MUSEUM RENOVATIONS AND COORDINATED WITH A MUSEUM DESIGNER TO CREATE AND PRESENT NEW EXPERIENCES FOR VISITORS TO THE NEWLY RE-NAMED MUSUEM. THE A. L. LEWIS MUSEUM AT AMERICAN BEACH WILL RE-OPEN TO THE PUBLIC IN 2022 WITH A NEW EXHIBITION THAT TELLS THE STORY OF THE HISTORY AND THE PEOPLE OF HISTORIC AMERICAN BEACH. TO SUPPORT THE PLANNING AND DESIGN OF THE MUSEUM, ALLHS RECEIVED A QUARTERLY GRANT FROM THE FLORIDA AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE AND PRESERVATION NETWORK FOR FISCAL YEAR 2021.
