THE GOAL OF GLOBAL UNDERWATER EXPLORERS IS TO ESTABLISH AN EDUCATED, PROFICIENT GLOBAL COMMUNITY OF SCUBA DIVERS INSPIRED AND EMPOWERED TO CONSERVE AND EXPLORE THE WORLD'S AQUATIC ENVIRONMENTS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
GLOBAL UNDERWATER EXPLORERS, INC (GUE) EXPANDED DIVER TRAINING PROGRAMS BY CONTINUING TO TRAIN NEW INSTRUCTORS, LAUNCHING A BETA VERSION OF A NEW E-LEARNING MODULE, AND RELEASING NEW COURSE MATERIALS, INCLUDING NEW VERSIONS OF BOTH OUR CAVE MANUAL AND FUNDAMENTALS BOOK. A NEW DECOMPRESSION SOFTWARE PROGRAM WAS FINALLY RELEASED AFTER MORE THAN FIVE YEARS IN DEVELOPMENT. EFFORTS TO TRANSLATE THE WEBSITE AND EXISTING COURSE MATERIALS ALSO CONTINUED, AS WELL AS A FOCUSED EFFORT IN VIDEO CONTENT CREATION FOR BOTH THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND GUE.TV, IN ORDER TO REACH MORE PEOPLE. A CONSERVATION PLEDGE WAS RELEASED, COMMITTING TO MORE ARDENT EFFORTS TO SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENT AND REDUCE OUR FOOTPRINT. TO THIS END, DIGITAL CERTIFICATIONS WERE MADE AVAILABLE, THE QUARTERLY JOURNAL WAS RE-LAUNCHED AS AN ONLINE PUBLICATION RATHER THAN PRINT, A DONATION WAS MADE TO AN ORGANIZATION FOR SEAGRASS GROWTH TO OFFSET THE CARBON FROM SHIPPING PRODUCTS, AND A GLOBAL CLEANUP WEEKEND WAS ORGANIZED AND PROMOTED. IN AN EFFORT TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE OUR WORLD-WIDE COMMUNITIES, THE SECOND ANNUAL GUE COMMUNITY DAY TOOK PLACE, AS WELL THE PUBLICATION OF A PROJECT REPORT THAT HIGHLIGHTS PROJECTS FROM GUE DIVERS AROUND THE WORLD. SINCE OUR INCEPTION, WE HAVE ISSUED MORE THAN 25,000 CERTIFICATIONS ACROSS OUR CURRICULUM. IN 2021, WE TRAINED MORE THAN 2,500 PEOPLE IN OUR COURSES RANGING FROM OUR BEGINNING COURSES SUCH AS GUE FUNDAMENTALS TO OUR ADVANCED COURSES, LIKE OUR REBREATHER CLASS. OUR MEMBERSHIP AVERAGED APPROXIMATELY 1,258 IN 2021.
