THE FISH & WILDLIFE FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA (FOUNDATION) FUNDED 33 GRANTS FROM "WILDLIFE FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA" LICENSE PLATE REVENUES TO THE FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION (FWC) AND OTHER 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATIONS FOR PROJECTS THAT CONSERVE, MANAGE, AND IMPROVE LANDS OPEN TO PUBLIC HUNTING, AND PROMOTE HUNTING SAFETY PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES INCLUDING YOUTH HUNTING PROGRAMS.
IN FLORIDA, THE GOPHER TORTOISE IS LISTED AS THREATENED. BOTH THE TORTOISE AND ITS BURROW ARE PROTECTED UNDER STATE LAW. THE FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION (FWC) DIVISION OF HUNTING AND GAME MANAGEMENT'S HUNTER SAFETY AND PUBLIC SHOOTING RANGE SECTION HAS SUCH POWERS, DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS AS ARE NECESSARY TO PROVIDE HUNTER SAFETY TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION WHICH NECESSITATES THE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC SHOOTING RANGES INCLUDING THE ONE AT TENOROC FISH MANAGEMENT AREA AND IN BAY COUNTY. THE FISH & WILDLIFE FOUNDATION OF FLORIDA MANAGES THE FUNDS FOR THOSE RANGES.
