A STATE CONVENTION WAS HELD IN APRIL 2021 TO PROVIDE TRAINING FOR STUDENT JOURNALISTS AND JOURNALISM TEACHERS AND TO RECOGNIZE STUDENT AND TEACHER ACCOMPLISHMENTS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022 APPROXIMATELY 108 ADVISORS AND 1,008 STUDENTS ATTENDED.
THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED CRITIQUE SERVICES FOR MEMBERS AND PROVIDED GUIDELINES ON HOW TO IMPROVE THEIR PUBLICATIONS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING 6/30/2022, ABOUT 100 YEARBOOKS AND 28 OTHER STUDENT PUBLICATIONS AND ONLINE BROADCASTS WERE CRITIQUED. 531 INDIVIDUAL CONTESTS IN FALL 2021, 2,605 CONTESTS IN SPRING 2022 AND 478 CONTESTS AT THE ANNUAL CONVENTION WERE ALSO CRITIQUED.
DISTRICT DIRECTORS CONDUCTED WORKSHOPS TO PROVIDE JOURNALISM INSTRUCTION FOR STUDENTS AND ADVISORS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022 WORKHOPS WERE HELD IN 5 DISTRICTS. APPROXIMATELY 119 ADVISORS AND 1,274 STUDENTS ATTENDED.
THE ORGANIZATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENT JOURNALISTS AND ADVISORS TO ENCOURAGE EDUCATION IN JOURNALISM. THE ORGANIZATION HAS AN ENDOWMENT FUND WHOSE REVENUES ARE USED TO HELP FUND THE SCHOLARSHIPS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022, 17 CASH SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING 5,200 AND 2 CONVENTION REGISTRATIONS WERE AWARDED TO INDIVIDUALS, 1 GRANT OF 500 WAS MADE TO A SCHOOL, AND THE ORGANIZATION CONTRIBUTED NOTHING TO ITS ENDOWMENT FUND.
