Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE ORLANDO SHAKESPEARE THEATER'S 33RD SEASON WAS STILL CHALLENGED BY THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC. THE SIGNATURE SERIES, WITH A CAST OF PROFESSIONAL ACTORS, AND PLAYFEST, WHICH IS FOCUSED ON DEVELOPING NEW PLAYS, WORKED TO RE-ENGAGE OUR AUDIENCES AND RESPECT THEIR COMFORT LEVEL AROUND GATHERING IN GROUPS AFTER YEARS OF SHUTDOWN. WE STARTED THE SEASON WITH A ONE-PERSON SHOW WITH LIMITED SEATING "EVERY BRILLIANT THINGTHEN PROGRAMMED TITLES THAT HAD MASS APPEAL LIKE "MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING", "A CHRISTMAS CAROL", "THE FANTASTICKSAN ORIGINAL PRACTICES PRODUCTION OF "HENRY IV PART 2". THE SEASON ALSO FEATURED A FULL PRODUCTION THAT STARTED IN OUR PLAYFEST READING SERIES - "SWEET WATER TASTE".
"SWEET WATER TASTE" IS A DARK COMEDY BY GLORIA BOND CLUNIE THAT ORIGINATED AT OUR THEATER 11 YEARS AGO AS A READING IN OUR PLAYFEST. THE PLAY EXPLORES MODERN RACIAL DIVIDE BETWEEN TWO FAMILIES THAT FIND SHARED MEANING IN THEIR OWN UNITED HISTORY. WE WERE ABLE TO BRING THE PLAYWRIGHT TO ORLANDO TO WORK WITH THE CAST AND HELP PROMOTE THE RUN. SHE ALSO PARTICIPATED IN OUR AUDIENCE TALKBACKS AND EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH.
WE CONTINUED OUR CABARET SERIES IN OUR TENTED COURTYARD FOR GUESTS WHO WERE NOT COMFORTABLE GATHERING INSIDE. WE PRESENTED THREE CONCERTS INCLUDING PERFORMANCES BY LOCAL FAVORITES MICHAEL ANDREW, JEFF RUPERT AND TYMISHA HARRIS. THE SERIES WAS ABLE TO ATTRACT OUR LONG TIME PATRONS AND NEW AUDIENCES WHO WERE ATTRACTED TO THE MUSICAL OFFERINGS. JAZZ, SWING AND CONTEMPORARY HOLIDAY MUSIC WERE ALL CELEBRATED THROUGHOUT THE SERIES IN THIS DYNAMIC NEW OUTDOOR VENUE.
