STATE LICENSED MEDIATORS ARE PROVIDED TO THE CITIZENS IN THE FLORIDA 7TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT FOR THE PURPOSE OF FREEING UP THE OVERALL COURT SYSTEM. THE VOLUSIA COUNTY CITIZENS DISPUTE SETTLEMENT PROJECT IS A VOLUNTEER AGENCY DEDICATED TO PROVIDING INDIVIDUALS WITH AN ALTERNATIVE MEANS OF SETTLING DISPUTES OUTSIDE OF THE TRADITIONAL COURT SYSTEM. RECIPIENTS ARE PEOPLE MOSTLY VUNERABLE IN THIS AREA THAT HAVE ISSUES WITH NEIGHBORS, MERCHANTS, BARKING DOGS AND OTHER DISRUPTIVE ANIMAL PROBLEMS, LANDLORD-TENANT ISSUES, AND OVERZEALOUS DEBT COLLECTORS. IN FISCAL YEAR 9/30/21, 2,400 TELEPHONE INQUIRIES WERE RECEIVED. 1,108 MEDIATIONS WERE PERFORMED. 523 SETTLEMENTS WERE OBTAINED. THERE WERE THIRTY-TWO VOLUNTEERS ASSISTING THE MEDIATION'S SERVICE MISSION THIS FISCAL YEAR.
