Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
ANIMAL PROGRAMS:THE PALM BEACH ZOO & CONSERVATION SOCIETY IS A FULLY ACCREDITED PUBLIC ZOO CARING FOR OVER 500 ANIMALS OF 190 SPECIES, MANY OF WHOM AREENDANGERED. THE PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE ZOO IS TO INSPIRE THE OVER 360,000 GUESTS WHO COME TO THE ZOO ANNUALLY TO TAKE ACTION THAT WILL HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THESE SAME SPECIES IN THE WILD. WE DO THIS THROUGH A SERIES OF DAILY ZOOLOGIST TALKS AND WILDLIFE SHOWS. INCLUDED WITHIN THIS PRIMARY FUNCTION IS THE OPERATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE ZOO'S GROUNDS, HABITATS AND A STATE OF THE ART ANIMAL HOSPITAL WHICH PROVIDES BOTH PREVENTATIVE AND RESPONSIVE CARE FOR THE ANIMALS WHO MAKE THEIR HOME HERE.
CONSERVATION PROGRAMS:THE ZOO PARTICIPATES IN CONSERVATION PROJECTS IN THE FIELD THAT ALIGN WITH OUR MISSION THROUGH THE PROVISION OF MONETARY SUPPORT TO OTHER CONSERVATION ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH OUR GRANT PROGRAM - THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE SUPPORT OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION SOCIETY'S MADIDI AND ENDAU ROMPIN PROJECTS, AVIAN RESEARCH & CONSERVATION INSTITUTE'S SWALLOW TAIL KITE AND SNAIL KITE PROGRAM, AND THE FLORIDA WILDLIFE CORRIDOR. OUR STAFF WORKS DIRECTLY WITH THE PERDIDO KEY BEACH MOUSE RESTORATION PROGRAM THROUGH THE U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE, THE SWALLOW TAIL KITE PROGRAM IN ASSOCIATION WITH PALM BEACH COUNTY'S DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION, CORAL MONITORING OFF THE EAST COAST OF FLORIDA IN COOPERATION WITH THE FLORIDA WILDLIFE COMMISSION, AS WELL AS OTHER SMALLER PROGRAMS THAT ARE RELEVANT TO OUR MISSION.
EDUCATION PROGRAMS:THE PALM BEACH ZOO HAS TRADITIONALLY OFFERED A VARIETY OF EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND IS CURRENTLY UNDERTAKING A RESTRUCTURING IN THIS AREA TO ENSURE THAT THE PROGRAMMING REMAINS CLOSELY ALIGNED WITH OUR MISSION OF CONSERVATION.
