WE SUPPORT OUR 4-H AND FFA STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WE PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS TO HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND ASSIST STUDENTS SHOWING AND SELLING THEIR PROJECTS AT THE FAIR. WE ALSO SUPPORT THE 4-H LIVESTOCK JUDGING TEAM WHICH EXPOSES STUDENTS TO AGRICULTURE AND THE LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY. THE PROGRAM ENABLES YOUTH TO DEVELOP DECISION-MAKING, EVALUATING, AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS FOR THE APPROPRIATE SELECTION OF THE LIVESTOCK SPECIES: BEEF CATTLE, AND SWINE.
WE PARTICIPATED IN AG LITERACY WEEK. THE PURPOSE OF THIS EVENT IS TO HIGHLIGHT AGRICULTURE EDUCATION. VOLUNTEERS READ AN AGE APPROPRIATE AGRICULTURAL THEME BOOK TO STUDENTS TO INCREASE THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF AGRICULTURE. STUDENTS AND TEACHER MAY ALSO RECEIVE HANDS-ON LESSONS WHICH HELP REINFORCE WHAT THEY LEARNED ABOUT A SPECIFIC COMMODITY.
HERNANDO-CITRUS COUNTY FARM BUREAU PROVIDED MINI-GRANTS TO TEACHERS TO ASSIST WITH THEIR AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM. TEACHERS SUBMIT AN APPLICATION EXPLAINING HOW THEY WILL INCORPORATE AGRICULTURE INTO THEIR CURRICULUM. THESE GRANTS HELP BRING AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF AGRICULTURE AMOUNG STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.
